Prince William and Princess Kate made history over the weekend as they issued a special message.
The royal couple delighted fans as, for the first time ever, they delivered a speech entirely in Welsh to mark St Davidâs Day.
William and Kate address fans in Welsh

In a video shared on their official social media channels, the Prince and Princess of Wales wished their Welsh fans âDydd GĆ”yl Dewi Hapus!â (Happy St Davidâs Day) yesterday.
âTo everyone in Wales,â Prince William began, in the Welsh language, âa very happy St Davidâs Day.â
Princess Kate then continued: âWales is very close to our hearts and we look forward to every visit.â
âIt is a beautiful country, with a rich history and wonderful people,â the Prince added, to which his wife finished up:
âWishing you a day full of celebration with family and friends.â
Prince and Princess praised for their âwonderful Welshâ
The royal coupleâs efforts appear to have gone down well with their Welsh followers, with many showering them with praise.
Welsh treasure Katherine Jenkins herself left them a comment, saying: âHappy St. Davidâs Day! Wonderful Welsh.â
Strictly star Amy Dowden also commented a Welsh flag and two heart emojis on the post.
Another Instagram user gushed: âHow wonderful to hear you two speaking Welsh!! I love it. Happy St. Davidsâs Day to everyone celebrating it today.â
Somebody else also said: âWell done! A couple of tricky mutations to pronounce. Thanks for honouring us in our language. Wishing you great happiness today and always.â
âWell done both,â cheered on another fan. âIt is appreciated. Not sure I have ever seen a princess of Wales also speaking Welsh.â
A few people also picked up on the Prince and Princessâs tell-tale smiles.
âWell done! They both look like they want to burst out laughing,â said one person.
âAgreed, thought there might have been a few takes,â somebody else agreed.

Ahead of the countryâs national day, the couple paid a visit to Wales last week. They stopped by the Hanging Gardens community centre, the Oriel Davis art gallery, and the Hafan yr Afon cultural centre, both accessorised with Walesâ national flower in the form of yellow daffodil badges. Sadly, Kate had to turn down a heartfelt request from one fan who had come out to greet them, telling him she could not give him an autograph but offering him a handshake instead.
