Prince Harry is set to travel to London without Meghan Markle and their children, in a fresh twist that has cast a shadow over hopes of a royal family reunion.
The Duke of Sussex is expected in Britain next week for charity and Invictus Games-related events, but Meghan, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet will not join him for the London part of the trip.
The decision comes amid renewed concerns over security arrangements for the Sussex family in the UK.
Harry has long argued that he cannot safely bring his wife and children back to Britain without the right level of protection. His automatic police security was reduced after he and Meghan stepped back from royal duties in 2020 and moved to California.
Now, reports claim a request for police protection linked to the family’s planned visit has been refused, forcing the Sussexes to rethink their travel plans.
For Harry, the decision is understood to be deeply frustrating.
The trip had raised hopes that Archie and Lilibet might finally spend time with King Charles in person after years of distance. The monarch is said to be keen to see his grandchildren, who have spent most of their young lives in the United States.
But those hopes now appear uncertain.
While Harry will still attend his London engagements alone, it has not been completely ruled out that Meghan and the children could join him elsewhere during the wider UK visit, including possible Invictus Games-linked events outside the capital.
Still, the London absence has reignited the painful question at the heart of Harry’s royal divide.
Can he rebuild ties with his family if he does not feel safe bringing his own children home?
