Moira Dingle Star Opens Up About Personal Loss
Emmerdale fans know Natalie J Robb as Moira Dingle, the beloved character she has played since 2009. Over the years, Moiraâs storylinesâfrom romance to her recent brain tumour arcâhave kept viewers hooked.
But behind the scenes, Natalie has faced a deeply personal heartbreak. In February 2024, she lost her cherished rescue dog, Bronson, at 15 years old. The loss left the actress devastated.

A Bond That Lasted Over a Decade
Bronson, a Japanese Akita and Rottweiler mix, was no ordinary pet. Natalie rescued him at just two years old, and the pair formed an unbreakable bond. Speaking to Mirror, she admitted:
âI hadnât experienced grief like it and it was awful. I missed him so much. I found it particularly hard coming home from a dayâs filming and him not being there. It was tough.â
To keep Bronson close, Natalie had a necklace made containing his chest hair. She wears it constantly, except while filming scenes as Moira. âHe is by my heart,â she explained, highlighting the depth of their connection.
A Mysterious Vision Leads to a New Companion
Despite the grief, Natalie experienced a remarkable vision last summer. She saw a âbig blonde dog running through the woodsâ alongside her. Weeks later, she discovered a Spanish animal rescue ad featuring a mastiff that looked exactly like the dog in her dream.
She recalled:
âIt was as if Bronson was telepathic and sending me a message. I rang them up and while I couldnât meet him because of work, I saw lots of videos of him. Because of the dream, I knew this dog was for me.â
Buddy Joins the Family
After four-and-a-half months of waiting, Natalieâs new pup, Buddy, arrived in the UK by boat in November. The new companion has helped fill the gap left by Bronsonâs passing, giving Natalie comfort and joy once more.
Fans have been moved by Natalieâs openness about the grief of losing a long-term pet. Many have shared their own stories of beloved animals, reflecting how deeply pets can impact our lives.
Balancing Fame and Personal Life
While Natalie continues to portray Moira on Emmerdale, she has shown how important it is to nurture her personal life outside the cameras. Her bond with Bronsonâand now Buddyâdemonstrates the emotional support pets can offer, especially in demanding professions like acting.
Itâs a story of love, loss, and hope. Natalieâs heartbreak over Bronsonâs passing is tangible, yet the arrival of Buddy signals a new chapter. Her story resonates with fans, reminding everyone that grief and healing often come in unexpected ways.
