💔 Katie Price admits Junior and Princess did not have the mum they needed during painful family chapter

Katie Price has spoken with raw honesty after hearing Junior and Princess Andre describe how deeply they were affected during her mental health crisis, admitting that they “didn’t have the mum they needed or wanted” at the time.

The 48-year-old appeared on This Morning after the release of her Sky documentary Katie Price: Nothing to Hide, where her two eldest children opened up about memories from a painful period in their family life. Junior, now 21, and Princess, now 19, were still young when Katie’s life began to unravel following the breakdown of her marriage to Kieran Hayler.

In the documentary, the siblings became visibly emotional as they recalled feeling confused, lonely and at times forced to grow up quickly. Katie told hosts Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard that watching their interviews was “awful”, explaining that her children had warned her they would be brutally honest if they were going to take part.

She said she never fully understood what they had gone through because, at the height of her breakdown, she was not mentally present in the way they needed. Katie said she believed she was trying to be the perfect mum, but now accepts that her children experienced something very different.

According to Katie, Junior and Princess came to her after filming and told her they had both broken down in tears. Hearing why, she said, devastated her. She described that time as a period when she was struggling to survive emotionally, adding that although she thought she was still mothering them, she now realises she was “vacant”.

The most emotional moments in the documentary came as Junior and Princess revisited specific childhood memories. Junior said it was probably the hardest time of his life and remembered trying to work out whether food could be microwaved so he could help feed the younger children. Princess said she sometimes felt so far from her mum that she would hold a blanket sprayed with Katie’s perfume, using it as a way to feel close to her.

Junior also recalled the frightening impact of seeing his mother return home in a state he had never witnessed before. He explained that, over time, he began to recognise patterns and realised the home environment was not healthy for him. At 14, he went to live with his father, Peter Andre, while Princess stayed, hoping she could still be there for her mum.

Speaking on This Morning, Katie said those reflections broke her heart. She admitted that her children had needed love, reassurance and stability from her, but that she was not well enough to give them what they deserved. She said it “kills” her to know she put them through that and acknowledged that the pain did not only affect the children, but her wider family too.

Katie also said that Junior and Princess had struggled to understand the contrast between the mum they remembered from their early childhood and the mother they saw during her breakdown. She said they now feel they have got their mum back, but admitted the missing years remain painful for everyone involved.

The documentary also revisits the period that led to Katie entering rehab after a serious driving incident in 2021. She later received a diagnosis of ADHD and has spoken repeatedly about wanting to rebuild her life. Junior, while emotional, said he was relieved his mother is still here and that he feels protective of her because she is his only mum.

Katie’s This Morning appearance also touched on her recent marriage to Lee Andrews, with the star saying her family are wary and protective because they do not want to see her hurt again. She said Lee’s social media behaviour had made the situation look like a joke and admitted her family currently want nothing to do with him.

For viewers, the most powerful part of the story was not the headlines around Katie’s relationships, but the rare honesty between a mother and her children. Junior and Princess did not soften their memories, and Katie did not try to deny the impact. Instead, the family appeared to confront a painful chapter in full view of the public.

It was uncomfortable, emotional and deeply personal – but it also showed a family trying to speak honestly about damage, regret and recovery. Katie says she has come through the other side, while her children say they have their mum back. The challenge now is learning how to heal from what happened while holding on to the bond that survived it.
