Prince William is next in line to the throne and the royal is believed to be following in his dad’s footsteps with a “slimmed-down monarchy,” as the historian suggested the Prince of Wales may shock the royals.

The GB News guest believes Prince William will abdicate to “give the next generation a chance” at taking the throne at a younger age.

Rafe: “We can see King Charles is very much his mother’s son in a way that you wouldn’t necessarily be able to say about Prince William, who I think will have a very different idea of what it is to be a monarch.

He claimed the Prince of Wales may give up the throne in his seventies in order to give the next generation a “chance of coming to the throne early”.

Viewers were left divided over the historian’s comments, as one X user wrote: “William is years from taking the throne. He would not burden George by giving him the crown when he is young.”
