Alison Hammondâs new TV job revealed after rejecting Strictly Come Dancing
Alison Hammond has landed a new TV presenting job, just days after she revealed the reason why she wonât be heading for the Strictly Come Dancing ballroom any time soon
Alison Hammond has secured a new presenting job after admitting her schedule was too full to do Strictly Come Dancing.
The star, who frequently appears on ITVâs This Morning, has become one of the most in-demand presenters, with shows including Celebrity Traitors reportedly desperate to sign her up, as well as the BBC ballroom competition.
However, Alison recently revealed she wonât be moving over to Strictly any time soon, despite competing on the show back in 2014, finishing in tenth place.
The 51-year-old is now taking centre stage in Channel 4âs Your Song, alongside Eurovisionâs Sam Ryder and pop star Paloma Faith.
The show will feature contestants all singing songs close to their hearts. They will battle it out for the grand prize, which will see the chosen singer top the bill at the Hackney Empire in London, for a special gig for their friends and family.
An official synopsis reads: âAcross the country, extraordinary people perform the song that tells their story. Alison Hammond and the team give the nationâs hidden voices the audience they deserve.â
The programme will launch this Sunday at 9pm on Channel 4. Speaking of the show, which is from the creators of The Piano, Alison told The Sun: âIt was important to me that it wasnât exploitative. Itâs filmed as live. Thereâs none of that faking it, what you see is the genuine timeline of what goes on.
âThereâs no like, âOh, could you do that bit again?â Thereâs none of that.â Sam, meanwhile, added: âI would go nowhere near any sort of show if it had any element of meanness, for meannessâ sake.â Sam went on to add that âhuman valueâ should be adhered to across talent shows.
Alison said that while television is âvolatileâ, she and her co-stars wouldnât care if Your Song âbombedâ as they had an âincredibleâ time making the show. She explained that the show had to be âauthenticâ and those who participated thoroughly enjoyed their experience throughout filming.
âYou canât be defined by awards and trophies, youâve got to be defined by how you personally feel inside and how we as a people treated other people,â Alison said. Earlier this week, Alison revealed that while Strictly would be âperfectâ for her, she wonât be signing up.
Nor will she be participating in Celebrity Traitors. She told the latest edition of Radio Times: âIâm so busy, that Iâm not sure it [Strictly Come Dancing] is going to happen. Itâs unrealistic. Iâm so happy they considered me, but like Traitors, I canât do it because everything clashes.â
Alison who burst onto the scene on Big Brother in 2002, went on to tell the publication: âI would have loved to have done it, anybody that gets it, theyâre going to land the perfect job. But Iâm so happy with everything Iâve got. What would I drop, to do Strictly?â
Rumours have been rife about who might take the coveted television jobs, with names such as Zoe Ball and Rylan Clark, as well as Alisonâs fellow This Morning star Sian Welby, all being touted. She said just days ago that she would be a perfect fit to take over from Tess and Claudia, who fronted the programme for more than a decade together.
