Prince Harry pushed Princess Catherine to her âlimitsâ with his bombshell BBC News interview last year, a royal expert has claimed in his upcoming novel. During the May 2025 interview, in which the Duke of Sussex discussed the health of his estranged father, King Charles, âthe damage was done,â royal expert Christopher Andersen wrote in an excerpt from his upcoming novel, Kate! The Courage, Grace, and Power of the Woman Who Will Be Queen.
During the shock interview with the BBC, during which he spoke about his prospects of returning to the UK, relationship with his family and anger at losing his right to automatic full security protection when visiting from the US, Prince Harry said he did not know âhow much longer my father has,â which made the Princess of Wales âmore disappointed than angry,â the exerpt reads. âPrincess Catherine is âthe sweetest, most loving person you could ever know,â said a Sandringham staffer, âbut like everyone else, she has her limits,ââ another excerpt reads.

Prince Harryâs discussion about his fatherâs cancer diagnoses âstruck a nerveâ with Catherine (Image: BBC)
During the interview, Prince Harry, 40 at the time, referred to his fatherâs cancer diagnosis in February 2024, According to Mr Andersen, the topic struck a nerve with Catherine, who was diagnosed with cancer herself a month later. According to the expert, she bonded with her father-in-law because of it.
âI think Kateâs relationship with her father-in-law over their shared cancer battles really has made her much more sensitive to King Charlesâs feelings,â Mr Andersen said. âShe knows better than anyone that having someone publicly imply you may be at deathâs door is horribly demoralising.â
âIâm sure Kate must have felt stung by that comment as well, since she is in a situation very similar to the Kingâs,â he added.

Mr Andersen also claimed that the Princess of Wales was always the âlevel-headed oneâ in the family feud and attempted to bridge the widening gap between the brothers,â but Harryâs comments about Charles changed her stance. Afterwards, she sided with her husband, who was allegedly furious about his brotherâs interview.
âBut William, who had already slammed the door shut on his brother over what Harry wrote in âSpare,â was, in the words of a courtier, âapoplecticâ with rage,â he wrote. âNow it was time to nail the door shut once and for all, and for the first time Kate, who had worked harder than anyone to mend the rift between the brothers, willingly handed her husband a hammer.â
According to US Weekly, Mr Andersen said he does not foresee Harry and Catherine âhaving any sort of relationshipâ going forward. âAt least not for the foreseeable future,â he added.
The Express has contacted The Office of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex for comment.
