Producers have approved the new format, which is expected to air next year, and it will once again be hosted by the main show’s presenting duo, Ant and Dec.

A source said: “This has all been very hush-hush, but everyone involved is really excited to get cracking with filming.

“The scenery will be stunning and the action explosive.

“Imagine the tension of two stars paired together, forced to eat, sleep, breathe and work together in constant near proximity.

“There will likely be fireworks and already some pretty big names are in the mix to appear.”

News of this latest iteration of the hugely-popular Bafta-winning series comes less than two weeks after the explosive finale of the South African version.

The show, which was filmed last year and featured campmates from previous series, averaged more than five million viewers a night and was mired in controversy.

During the live studio final last month, contestants David Haye and ex-footie star Jimmy Bullard got into an ugly row with the winner, Waterloo Road star Adam Thomas, after clashes in camp.
