Season two of the hit drama series Landman, created by Taylor Sheridan, is drawing major attention as it locks in its submissions for the Primetime Emmy Awards. After season one was notably overlooked by the Television Academy, the new season is showing strong momentum, earning recognition from multiple awards bodies and positioning itself as a serious contender this year.
At the center of the campaign is Billy Bob Thornton, who leads the series as Tommy Norris—a hardened figure navigating the brutal oil industry in West Texas. Thornton is once again being pushed in the Lead Actor in a Drama Series category, following his Critics Choice nomination, which highlights both his commanding performance and the complexity of the role.
One of the most notable shifts this season is the show’s category strategy. Unlike last year, when Ali Larter—who plays Norris’ outspoken wife Angela—was campaigned as a lead, she will now compete in the supporting category alongside the rest of the cast. Meanwhile, Andy Garcia transitions from guest eligibility in season one to a supporting contender this year, portraying the enigmatic business partner Gallino.
Beyond its veteran stars, Landman continues to shine through its breakout talents. Michelle Randolph and Jacob Lofland stand out as Norris’ conflicted children, while Paulina Chávez adds emotional depth as Ariana. Kayla Wallace also leaves a strong impression as the sharp and formidable attorney Rebecca.

A packed screening of the season two finale at the Television Academy’s North Hollywood headquarters drew significant buzz, followed by a Q&A with the main cast. Shortly after, Paramount+ hosted a high-profile New York event titled “The Icons of Taylor Sheridan’s Universe,” featuring cast members alongside stars from Sheridan’s other projects—further elevating the show’s visibility.
With a refined strategy, a powerful ensemble, and growing industry recognition, Landman season two is not only aiming to correct the oversight of its debut season—but could also emerge as a major force at this year’s Emmys.
