Back in September, Janice filed a personal injury claim at the High Court, seeking damages from ITV. She previously revealed that the accident occurred in October 2022 while the show was being pre-recorded, when she fell flat on her face during the night.

Now, sources close to the model claim the consequences were far more severe than initially believed. It is alleged Janice has suffered permanent traumatic scarring across multiple areas of her face, including her lips and mouth, both cheeks, chin and lower face.

Doctors have also claimed that Janice suffered permanent facial scarring, deformity and nerve damage and cannot be corrected by surgery

The legal claim also alleges that Janice had been given sleep medication by a medic employed by ITV at the time of the fall. Court documents state the medication can cause drowsiness and impaired balance, leaving her “particularly vulnerable” when moving around the camp at night.

Insiders say the injuries have had a devastating impact on her appearance — and potentially her career. A source told The Sun: “Her face has been permanently altered. The scars and indentations cannot be corrected.”

Medical experts are also said to have concluded that Janice has suffered permanent facial scarring, deformity and nerve damage that cannot be fixed through surgery.

Another insider told The Mirror: “Janice has been at the forefront of modelling for decades. She has been the face of Chanel, Dior and Gianni Versace. The trauma she suffered is a devastating blow.”

Legal documents filed by law firm Taylor Hampton at London’s High Court reportedly state that Janice believes ITV is legally liable for compensation, with the model claiming a combination of the sleep medication and the dark jungle environment led directly to her fall.

Janice previously appeared on I’m A Celebrity in 2007 and returned for the South African All Stars edition in 2023. It is believed that one of the camp’s night lights was not switched on at the time of the accident.

The fall reportedly happened in the early hours when Janice got up to use the toilet and tripped in the darkness.

Following the incident, Janice was stretchered out of camp and later said she felt “betrayed, humiliated and crushed” after some former campmates appeared to mock her exit.

When Helen Flanagan read Janice’s farewell letter on the show, Phil Tufnell reportedly joked that it had been signed “with her broomstick,” prompting laughter from Joe Swash, Dean Gaffney and Myleene Klass.

A source close to Janice later said she was deeply shocked when she saw the footage again as part of her legal case, especially after publicly praising Phil for helping her when she was injured.

“They think it was just a simple trip and fall,” the source said. “It wasn’t. These were deep wounds. Blood was coming from four different areas of her face. It was frightening. She was badly hurt and terrified.”

The source added that Janice was stunned the comments were broadcast at all and felt there was a troubling undertone of ageism and misogyny.

After the fall, Janice was also required to receive three rabies injections. She later claimed ITV initially refused to cover the cost and failed to contact her directly once she had returned to Los Angeles.

Speaking to The Sun, Janice said: “ITV need to take some responsibility. I was so messed up. My face was bloody and cut up. I was left there injured in the dark for several minutes. They had a duty of care and they let me down.”

She also recalled the moment of the accident in an interview with The Sun’s TV Mag: “It was pitch dark. I tried to make it to the toilet from memory. I took a few steps and flew straight onto my face. My nose was bleeding, my chin was split open and blood was everywhere.”

Despite the legal battle, Janice later admitted on the Reality TV On Record podcast that she would “absolutely” return to I’m A Celebrity if asked again.

An ITV spokesperson told MailOnline: “We do not recognise this version of events. The health, safety and welfare of our contributors are our top priority. Janice was cared for at the time, her medical expenses were paid, and she was flown home with ongoing contact maintained.”

Janice’s representative Dermot McNamara added: “Janice is fully committed to seeing this legal process through and looks forward to ITV’s response.”
