The Olympic swimming champion, 31, spoke warmly about fatherhood, marriage and his bond with Holly’s famous family during a candid appearance on BBC Breakfast. While the happy baby news took centre stage, Adam’s comments also arrived amid ongoing reports of distance between him and some members of his own family.
Adam and Holly, 26, announced last month that they are expecting a baby girl. For the athlete, who is already father to a five-year-old son from a previous relationship, the new chapter appears to have brought a fresh sense of perspective.
Speaking about what the year has already meant to him, Adam reflected on his wedding to Holly at Bath Abbey last December, describing it as one of the best days of his life. He said the memory of watching Holly walk down the aisle has stayed with him like a snapshot in his mind.
He also spoke with visible affection about becoming part of the Ramsay family. Asked about having Gordon Ramsay as his father-in-law, Adam called it an “incredible blessing” and made it clear that he feels supported as he prepares for another major life change.
For fans, the comment stood out because Adam has become increasingly linked with the Ramsay family since his relationship with Holly became public. The couple are believed to have met through Holly’s sister Tilly, after Adam and Tilly both appeared on Strictly Come Dancing in 2021.
Adam said the role of being a father has been one of the most powerful parts of his life. He explained that having another person in the world who loves and cherishes you is, to him, the biggest blessing.
He added that his love for his children is not measured by medals or sporting success. With Holly now going through pregnancy, Adam said all he can pray for is her happiness and health, as well as the baby’s.
The swimmer also admitted the experience is pushing him to grow up. It was a revealing line from one of Britain’s most successful athletes, whose career has been built on discipline, pressure and the pursuit of elite performance.
Adam has won six Olympic medals across four Games, including three golds, and is now preparing to compete at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow this summer as part of the England team. But his latest interview showed a softer side, with family taking priority alongside sport.
However, the happy update comes against a more complicated backdrop. Reports have claimed Adam is no longer speaking to his parents Caroline and Mark, and that tensions have also developed around his sister Bethany.
According to the report, Holly is now said to be no longer on speaking terms with Bethany, despite the two once appearing close. Bethany was reportedly one of Holly’s bridesmaids and was the only member of Adam’s immediate family to attend the wedding last December.
The reported fallout is said to have emerged after Bethany was asked to speak about Holly’s baby news in what was believed to be a paid interview. A source claimed Bethany contacted Holly first out of respect and asked whether she could answer questions, but Holly declined.
The same report claimed Holly warned that she and Adam would take a step back if Bethany spoke publicly about the pregnancy. Adam is now said to be caught in the middle and reportedly trying to repair the relationship between his wife and sister.
Bethany has previously described the situation as a difficult time and said she felt caught between Adam and their mum. For followers of the family, the latest comments have added another emotional layer to what should otherwise be a joyful baby announcement.
Still, Adam’s BBC Breakfast appearance focused largely on gratitude, love and the future. His praise for Gordon Ramsay, his excitement about becoming a girl dad and his concern for Holly’s wellbeing painted the picture of a man entering a new phase of life with both excitement and responsibility.
As the couple prepare for their first child together, fans will be watching not only Adam’s return to the pool, but also how he balances elite sport, new fatherhood and the very public pressures surrounding both families.
