Gardenersâ World icon Monty Don sparked a major fan frenzy after taking to Instagram to share the ongoing hardships of his beloved golden retriever, Ned. In addition to being a BBC fan favourite, the 70-year-old adorable pooch also has a cult following of admirers through his regular appearances on the long-running horticultural programme. This transferred to social media, as Ned is frequently posted on Instagram, leaving many gushing over his loveable tendencies.
This time, many of the presentersâ 1.4 million followers were left empathetic for Monty, as he shared one of Nedâs struggles. This came alongside a heartwarming photo of the seemingly fed-up four-year-old, posed with his head in between the rails of a wooden field gate. The caption read: âThe appalling hardship of waiting for me as I stop to take pictures.â Having been cemented as a staple at his Longmeadow garden, viewers quickly rushed to the comments.

One fan commented: âAs a fellow Golden owner, I know that patient look all too well. There is pure magic in the garden, among the flowers, with our most loyal companions by our side. Absolute perfection!â
An understanding follower added: âI get the side eye every time I point my phone at my cat, heâs not a keen sitter for my amateur photography.â
âI have seen that look many, many times!â echoed a fourth. While another joked: âHeâs got such a hard life.â

As a sixth noticed the plant directly in front of Ned and remarked: âYour plants must be so patient! Canât blame them for wanting their moment in the spotlight.â

This comes just months after Monty revealed that Ned had been âin a complete stateâ as he opened up about the realities of having a dog and a flourishing garden.
During an appearance on the Dig It podcast with hosts Zoe Ball and Jo Whiley, Monty explained: âThey will pee on the lawn, and there will be brown circles, and thereâs not much you can do about it.
âI often get asked, âHow do you make a garden dog-friendly?â And I sort of pontificate and go out into the garden with Ned, and then he crashes through the garden and knocks something over.â
The presenter added: âHeâs in a complete state at the moment. My sonâs dog is in season and heâs not eating, heâs not sleeping, heâs barking, heâs completely sex-starved. And of course, being Ned, he doesnât know what to do. [Itâs] not good.â
