Good Morning Britain‘s Kate Garraway was experiencing considerable discomfort while presenting today, she revealed.
Kate fronted the ITV daytime show this Friday alongside Ranvir Singh, as the pair filled in for the likes of Susanna Reid and Ed Balls during the Easter holiday.
Nevertheless, as they began the programme, Kate acknowledged the fact she was sporting spectacles, and disclosed she had been battling an infection.
“A very good morning to you,” Ranvir launched the show with, to which Kate joked, “Who said that?”
She then confessed: “I can’t see a thing this morning, Ranvir,” reports the Mirror.
“You’re in pain, though, aren’t you, a little bit?” Ranvir responded, with Kate continuing: “I’ve got an eye infection, and you know, I wear contacts, and I can’t wear my contacts, so I had to buy a pair of glasses, because my other glasses were broken, and I can’t really see a thing.”
Ranvir responded: “I’m so sorry about this. This morning, we’re here to support you.”
She mentioned that they were “giggling” as she rather appreciated Kate’s “Harry Potter” appearance.
Ranvir continued: “We’ll crack on, we’ll get through it, won’t we? We’re here for four hours.”
“Do you think I’ll catch up by the end?” Kate quipped. “Whatever you say, I’ll go along with.”
She then called out to her cameraman: “He’s had to come so close, he’s virtually touching my nose! Bring it in, Ed! I can’t see a thing!”
This isn’t the first occasion Kate has experienced a comparable ordeal, having revealed in 2024 that she had a “rabid eye infection”.
She appeared on air once more sporting glasses, informing viewers: “If I’m looking a bit emotional this morning, it’s partly the football, it’s also that I’ve got a rabid eye infection.”
Her co-presenter, Adil Ray, then joked that he had assumed she was “getting emotional” about football, which had been the topic of their conversation.
Kate replied: “There’s an element of that, too! When I look through these spectacles, I see a win!”
She continued: “They’re rose-tinted and I see a win and I’m manifesting it! I think we should all just embrace something to be joyous about.”
Later in the same programme, she made another reference to her infection, joking that she had borrowed Susanna’s glasses, remarking: “I have very sore eyes, I’m borrowing Susanna’s glasses.”
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV1 and ITVX.
