💔 “I thought I was dying” — Wayne Lineker reveals the terrifying seven-week health ordeal that nearly cost him his life

Wayne Lineker has spoken candidly about a terrifying health crisis that left him fearing he would not survive — after spending seven weeks in hospital following two severe bouts of pneumonia.

The 63-year-old O Beach Ibiza founder revealed that the ordeal began shortly after he flew back to the UK from Dubai, where he had been visiting his daughter, Tia. What started as feeling “run down” quickly escalated into something far more serious.

Back home, Wayne woke in the middle of the night in excruciating pain, convinced he was having a heart attack.

Unable to stand, he crawled across the floor to reach his phone and call an ambulance — a moment he now describes as one of the most frightening of his life.

🏥 “I Was in Big Danger”

Wayne was rushed to Basildon & Thurrock University Hospital, where doctors diagnosed him with chronic pneumonia. He would go on to spend four weeks there initially — before suffering another devastating attack just days after being discharged.

“After three days at home, I had another really big attack,” Wayne recalled.
“I was in a severe state. The doctor told my son I was in big danger. My blood pressure was ridiculously low.”

Despite reassuring Wayne that he would be fine, medics quietly told his family just how serious the situation had become.

“There were two times I nearly passed away,” Wayne admitted.
“It was a real eye-opener. I genuinely worried for my life. I kept thinking — am I going to make it?

💔 Seven Weeks, Eleven Kilos — And a Man Who Barely Recognised Himself

Confined to a hospital bed for nearly two months, Wayne lost 11 kilograms, leaving him physically and emotionally shaken.

“When I came out, I looked awful,” he said.
“I couldn’t look in the mirror for weeks. I looked so frail — my face, my chest… everything had gone.”

He was finally discharged at the end of December, just after the festive period — weak, thinner, but alive.

🍷 A Wake-Up Call After Years of Struggle

The health scare came just months after Wayne had already begun turning his life around.

The businessman revealed that he had admitted himself into rehab six months earlier, after years of battling alcohol and drug addiction — struggles he says were fuelled by anxiety during his time living in Ibiza.

“I was drinking heavily, taking drugs, just trying to cope,” he admitted.
“Vodka Red Bull in the morning, then drinking all day. I’d turn my phone off and ignore my family.”

The cycle only broke when his children intervened — particularly his son Freddie, 21, who broke down in tears after witnessing his father’s binges.

“That was the moment,” Wayne said. “That’s when I knew I had to get help.”

He now firmly believes that if he hadn’t gone into rehab, he would not have survived pneumonia.

💪 Looking Forward — Slower, Sober, and Grateful

Now back home, Wayne is taking recovery one day at a time — focusing on the gym, supplements, rest, and maintaining his sobriety.

Asked whether he plans to return full-time to his Ibiza beach club empire, Wayne admitted his priorities have shifted.

“My focus now is to get stronger, get healthier, and stay sober,” he said.
“I’m enjoying it — it’s brought a lot of benefits.”

After years of excess, near-misses and warnings, Wayne Lineker says this ordeal may have been the final wake-up call he needed.

🕊️ “I nearly lost everything,” he reflected. “And this time, I’m not ignoring the message.”
