The Pitt star Noah Wyle opens up about what fans can expect from Season 3 just days after the Season 2 finale. Unfortunately, part of that is finding out “what rock bottom looks like.”

Speaking to Deadline, The Pitt star, who portrays Doctor Michael “Robby” Robinavitch on the hit medical drama, discussed what fans can look forward to in Season 3, especially when it comes to his own character’s personal trajectory. “I think what he’ll find is that he hasn’t been himself for a really long time, and if he had been aware of his own behavior, he wouldn’t feel very proud of himself,” Wyle said in regard to Dr. Robby’s downward spiral in Season 2.

Dr. Robby’s Journey Through The Pitt Season 2 — Explained

Season 2 of The Pitt followed its core cast throughout a particularly harrowing Fourth of July weekend, during which audiences watched Dr. Robby sink ever deeper into depression. At a certain point, this boiled over into apparent thoughts of suicide, showcasing the profound impact that professional burnout and emotional turmoil have on healthcare workers.

“I don’t think he was feeling very proud of himself even while he was exhibiting that behavior. I think a lot of that was projection against how he didn’t want to feel,” Wyle explained. “It was hard to see weakness in others when you don’t want to see it in yourself.”

Wyle went on to discuss Dr. Robby’s relationship with Surpiya Ganesh’s Dr. Samira Mohan, who he consistently pushes to live up to her immense potential, in part as a coping mechanism for his own shortcomings. “His tough love attitude with her is totally inappropriate and unprofessional, but it’s grounded in a desire for her to see herself the way he sees her, which is a lot more talented and a lot more full of potential,” Wyle added.

The Pitt Season 3 is currently expected to premiere in January 2027, and will take place months after the events of Season 2. In fact, the November setting of The Pitt Season 3 will play into its wider narrative, as noted by creator R. Scott Gemill, who stated that the “colder weather” will be directly incorporated into various storylines.

Although specific plot details for The Pitt Season 3 remain tightly under wraps, Wyle did offer fans some insight into where things are headed. “The thesis of Season 1 is the doctor is the patient. Season 2, doctors don’t make very good patients. Season 3, doctors benefit from being patients,” Wyle said during The Pitt panel as PaleyFest in Los Angeles.

Since its release, The Pitt was a massive hit thanks to its accuracy, and Season 1 won several Emmy Awards, including Best Drama Series. Season 2 didn’t disappoint, and it holds an even better score than Season 1 on Rotten Tomatoes, with a near-perfect 99% rating, higher than 94% from the previous entry. Overall, it has an 86% approval rating from audiences.

The Pitt is currently available for streaming on HBO Max. Season 3 is currently expected to arrive in January 2027.
