The Prince and Princess of Wales were drawing to the close of an official tour during which they had encountered numerous frontline workers, NHS staff, military representatives and community volunteers.
While carrying out solo engagements, the Duke of Cambridge paid a visit to Queens Bay Lodge Care Home in Edinburgh, where he enjoyed an amusing exchange with 96 year old Betty Magee.
Recounting the encounter during a video call with actresses Emma Thompson and Emma Stone, William said: “I got propositioned by a 96-year-old lady called Betty who wanted to kiss me.
“She’s in a care home with her daughter and I said ‘Betty, if I do that I’m going to get slapped on the back of the head for inappropriate social distancing.’”, reports the Liverpool Echo.

“She said ‘I’ll have you afterwards then!’… She was a right character!”
A delighted Kate laughed, before replying: “This is what happens when I’m not around!”
The Duchess went on to commend the dedication and compassion of frontline workers throughout the pandemic.
She revealed being particularly moved by her conversations with staff members who had themselves contracted Covid.
“They felt bad that they were letting their teammates down and they weren’t there,” she explained.
“It’s an amazing work ethic and they just went above and beyond – and still do, obviously.”
During the tour, Kate and William also made a sentimental return to the university town of St Andrews, the very place where their romance first blossomed nearly two decades ago when they were fellow students.
