A BBC presenter who faced criticism for wearing “tight leather trousers” while broadcasting the news has delivered a defiant response to her detractors. The host donned a pair of black leather trousers while reading the news from her red sofa, which attracted considerable attention from audiences. Amanda Harper, a presenter for BBC’s Look North, encountered some harsh remarks about her attire as critics claimed she appeared “unflattering, “terrible” and “horrid” in the trousers. Nevertheless, numerous individuals leapt to her defence and declared that she looked “gorgeous” as one person applauded: “You go Amanda!”

She subsequently boldly turned to social media to launch her own response against the critics. The newsreader posted herself in the contentious ensemble with the caption: “I’m delighted that lovely people outnumber the not so lovely. Thank you for the reminder. The trousers live on. In fact, I might even wear them more often. This video sparked a wave of nasty comments… But most people were kind. The trousers stay.”

A second admirer wrote: “You look incredible, and you dress to please yourself,” as a third contributed: “Keep wearing-it really hacks off the haters.” Another commenter observed that whenever their mum watches Amanda presenting on Look North, “we say how lovely you always look, we love your outfits and style!”

This follows BBC Breakfast stalwart Carol Kirkwood‘s departure from the broadcaster after a remarkable 28 years on air. The 63 year old emotionally announced her decision to leave the BBC in a statement issued in January, describing it as a choice that had “not been an easy decision to make”.

Rather than reaching three decades with the programme, Carol has opted to abandon Britain in favour of sunnier shores, seeking the warmth of Majorca alongside her husband Steve.
