Prime minister ๐๐ฆ๐ช๐ณ๐๐ต๐ข๐ณ๐ฎ๐ฆ๐ณ was dealt a brutal blow as Sky News aired a scathing rant about his leadership from former Labour MP Karl Turner. The politician who now sits as an Independent MP following his suspension in March joined presenter Leah Boleto after Starmerโs Monday (May 11) speech, in which he vowed to โprove doubters wrong.โ Addressing whether the Prime minister should step down, Turner stated: โIt was a well-rehearsed speech, it was delivered well, but it was done by way of autocue.โ
The MP for Kingston upon Hull East admitted: โI texted the PM yesterday, weโve not spoken much in recent months because weโve had a fall out which was fairly public, but I said โif you go into the room tomorrow and read from autocue itโs goodnight Vienna unfortunately because youโve got to speak from the heart.’โ โBut I suspect what the advisers were saying to him in Downing Street yesterday is โthe strategy, Prime minister, to get you over this week. Is to get Catherine West to drop the idea of challenging you.’โ He fumed: โThatโs what theyโre doing, theyโre going from day to day to get the Prime minister into a position where he survives the day, but if thatโs the speech to persuade that country that things are going to change, Iโm afraid it wonโt work.โ

The former Labour MP raged: โWhy? Because itโs just more of the same with a bit more drama.
โThereโs nothing in that speech thatโs going to get people in East Hull revved up to the point where theyโre saying โI wish Iโd not voted for Reform the other day,โ and thereโs his problem.โ
Karl furiously questioned: โSo what is the decision he wants to make? Who does he really want to speak to? Does he want to write off the red wall? Seats like Barnsley, Sheffield and Hull. Is that the seats he wants to give up on, because if he does, fine.
โSay youโre going to rejoin the European Union, tell the country thatโs your plan. We might win a few seats off the Lib-Dems, we might win a few seats off the soft Tories, we might win a few seats from places weโd never expect, like Cumbria Town if the position is that weโre going to go back into the EU.โ

The MP fumed: โBut letโs not pretend that heโs going to move the dial in any constituency in the North of England with that speech today.
โGod bless him, heโs doing his best, and the question you ask me is, should he stay or should he go? In some ways, itโs academic because I canโt win, can I?โ
He explained: โIf I say the Prime minister should stay put, they say to me, โHang on a minute, youโre only saying that because you want the whip back,โ and if I say, โNo, be off with you, ๐๐ฆ๐ช๐ณ๐๐ต๐ข๐ณ๐ฎ๐ฆ๐ณ, weโre sick to death of you, weโve had enough,โ the answer to that is,โ heโs bound to say that, heโs been suspended,โ over jury trial containment of all things.โ
Angered by Starmer, Karl added: โThe Prime minister had an opportunity today to deliver a speech from the heart. I can do it, I spoke for the last seven minutes without a breath, why canโt the Prime minster do it, for goodness sake.โ
