Ant and Dec were surprised to see Jeremy Clarkson on the stage after The Hawkstone Farmers Choir were announced as the winner of Britain’s Got Talent. Clarkson, 66, was reduced to tears as he watched his agricultural singing group make Britain’s Got Talent history by becoming the first choir ever to win the ITV competition on Saturday (May 30) night.

The choir has walked away with the £250,000 prize and won a coveted place at this year’s Royal Variety Performance. After the ITV broadcast had aired, Ant and Dec took to their joint Instagram account to share a behind the scenes look following The Hawkstone Farmers Choir win. Seconds into the video, the presenter spotted Clarkson on stage.

“You’re not meant to be here!” exclaimed Ant as he turned the camera on the Clarkson’s Farm star.

“I’m on the wrong show,” declared Clarkson before he continued celebrating with his choir.

During the live final, the choir opted to sing an original song called This is Home. The decision to perform their own material was praised by judge Simon Cowell, who branded them the best act of the night so far.

“Tonight that was absolutely on the money. The best act we’ve seen so far tonight,” the judge said, adding that he believed the group had a genuine chance of winning.

KSI agreed: “It’s such a risk especially in the final to do an original song, but put that on Spotify.”

The choir was initially formed by Clarkson as part of a promotional campaign for his Hawkstone brewery before becoming a larger community project.

The ensemble, made up of agricultural workers from across rural Britain, includes farmers from Oxfordshire and ten members from Wales.

However, not everyone was pleased with their win, with many taking to social media to claim: “These results are just an absolute joke #bgt.”

Another said: “The state of this country allowing a choir full of Clarkson’s farmers win #BritainsGotTalent Absolute fix. This might be the death nail for #BGT.”

A third raged: “The talent this year and the f***ing farmers get it with the help of Jeremy f***ing Clarkson. Absolute con. I’ve just wasted my life with this series #BGT.”
