Good Morning Britain shared a huge update on the Henry Nowak case. Presenters Ed Balls and Susanna Reid explained that two people have been arrested following protests over the 18-year-old’s death.

As the breaking banner flashed across the screen of the ITV programme, Susanna said: “Breaking news this morning, policing minister Sarah Jones says that two people have been arrested after riot police clashed with crowds protesting over the arrest and murder of the teenager Henry Nowak in Southampton.” She went on: “Hundreds of people gathered near to where Henry was stabbed to death by Vickrum Digwa, who falsely claimed that he had been the victim of a racial attack.” Susanna shared that some of the protesters threw “wheelie bins, bottles and bricks” at police officers. “Others chanted ‘I can’t breathe’, which were Henry’s last words as he lay dying,” Susanna said.

Ed then added: “The Home Secretary has accused protesters of hijacking tragedy, stressing that the Nowak family had asked that Henry’s death shouldn’t be used to create further division.”

The show then cut to a correspondent, Jonathan Swain, who was live in Southampton, where the aftermath of the riots could be seen. Ed explained that there had been arrests overnight.

The reporter said: “There has been national outcry and anger, and upset. Not just at Henry’s murder, but also the response by the police to all of this. Last night, there was anger directed directly at the police.”

“This is something that Henry’s family did not want,” he added.

It comes as policing minister Sarah Jones told Times Radio: “There have been two arrests, as I understand it from my briefing this morning, one for assault of a police officer, one for possession of a weapon.”

Fans reacted to the news online, with one posting to X/Twitter: “Yeah, that’s just what Henry Nowak’s family need. People trashing Southampton and using their son’s name to score political points. Vile #gmb.”

Another added: “This programme whipping up their media storm and then comes the protests ffs! You’re shocking and laughable!! #GMB.”

A third said: “The only people who forgot Henry Nowak were Nigel Farage who didn’t show up to the debate on his murder yesterday afternoon after his ’emergency address’ at 8am and the thugs assaulting Police last night.”
