Former footballer Sir David Beckham is set to be honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in a glamorous ceremony that will take place in the coming days
Footballer Sir David Beckham is set to be honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce announced the former England captain will be honoured with a ceremony at 6819 Hollywood Boulevard on Friday June 12.
Actor Tom Cruise and Sir David’s wife Victoria will speak at the event, with the 51-year-old receiving the walk’s 2,849th star.
Walk of Fame producer Ana Martinez said: “The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is proud to welcome David Beckham to the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
“David Beckham’s recognition with a Hollywood Walk of Fame star in the Sports Entertainment category comes at a fitting moment as the United States prepares to host the FIFA World Cup.
“Beckham’s role in elevating soccer’s profile in America and his lasting influence on sports, entertainment, and global culture make this honour especially meaningful.”
Fans were quick to react to the news, with one writing on X: “Of course he is, he’s a legend!”
Another simply said: “Sir David Beckham, fittingly honoured before the World Cup!” as a follower wrote: “Congratulations to him.”
However, some were left wondering why David, a footballer, had been chosen to be celebrated alongside some of the biggest names in Hollywood. A social media user wrote on X: “Sorry but David Beckham is not a movie star!
“Stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame are for the likes of legends Paul Newman and the like. What’s next? Love Island people getting them?” whilst another joked: “David Beckham gets a Hollywood Star. To be fair I’ve loved all the films he’s done!”
A commenter added: “As if David Beckham is getting a Hollywood walk of fame star! Wtf lol!” The recognition comes ahead of the 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup, which gets underway this month in the US, Mexico and Canada.
