Emmerdale fans hoping for their usual Friday night trip to the Dales are set for disappointment, as the ITV soap will not air in its regular 8pm slot tonight.
The schedule disruption hits on Friday, June 5, with Emmerdale removed from ITV’s evening line-up. Coronation Street is also missing from the schedule, meaning both of ITV’s major soaps are taking the night off before returning with extra episodes on Sunday, June 7. Entertainment Daily reports that because there is no new episode tonight, viewers also will not find a fresh instalment of Emmerdale on ITVX or YouTube.

That detail is important for fans who have become used to the new 7am streaming pattern. Since ITV launched its revamped soap schedule in January 2026, Emmerdale has usually been available early each morning on ITVX before its 8pm TV broadcast. But when an episode is pulled completely from the schedule, there is no early online release either.
The latest change is part of a wider pattern of disruption caused by sport and special programming. ITV’s “soap power hour” was designed to give viewers a clearer nightly routine, with Emmerdale at 8pm and Coronation Street at 8.30pm. The format has proved popular with many viewers, especially those who enjoy the shorter 30-minute episodes and faster pacing.

But the new schedule has not stopped soaps being moved around when live events take priority. Entertainment Daily notes that football, rugby and other major broadcasts are still affecting ITV’s line-up, leaving fans needing to check the TV guide more carefully before settling down for their usual soap fix.
And when Emmerdale does return, the drama will not be gentle.
Sunday’s episode is expected to push Charity Dingle’s nightmare with Dr Caitlin Todd into a darker chapter. Todd has been threatening to expose Charity’s secret during Sarah’s 21st birthday celebrations unless she gets paid. Backed into a corner, Charity eventually calls Todd’s bluff and dares her to reveal everything. For a brief moment, it appears Todd may hold back — but that fragile peace does not last.
Entertainment Daily reports that Todd soon turns on Charity, leaving her facing one of the darkest ordeals of her life. Elsewhere, Lydia is set to confront Sam after Kim grows suspicious about his connection with Laurel, while Laurel herself becomes uneasy over Ross’s feelings and faces a difficult decision.

So while the missing Friday episode may frustrate fans, the Sunday return looks set to make up for it with major drama.
For now, the message is simple: there is no Emmerdale at 8pm tonight, no early ITVX drop, and no new YouTube release.
But on Sunday, the Dales come roaring back — and Charity may be walking straight into one of her most harrowing chapters yet.
