Hollyoaks is preparing a huge return storyline for Leah Barnes and Imran Maalik — but what first looks like a glamorous comeback may quickly turn into something far more complicated.
Leah and Imran are both returning to the village after years away, and their arrival is set to shock their families immediately. Imran left Hollyoaks in 2023 to live with his brother Sami in London, while Leah headed to university in America in 2024. Now, the two are coming back together as a couple, leaving Ste Hay, Misbah Maalik and everyone around them stunned.
The twist becomes even bigger when Leah reveals that she and Imran are moving back to Hollyoaks and have bought a riverside home. Imran is now said to be a tech millionaire, giving the couple’s return a glossy, successful image that instantly makes them stand out. Leah had kept both her relationship and her new wealthy lifestyle hidden from Ste when he visited her in America, admitting she did not want him to get carried away with everything.
On the surface, Leah and Imran seem to have returned as the village’s new golden couple. They have money, confidence, a new home and a relationship nobody saw coming. But in Hollyoaks, a perfect image rarely survives for long.
The biggest tension comes from how much they have kept secret. Leah hiding such a major part of her life from Ste already suggests there may be deeper cracks beneath the surface. If she felt the need to conceal her relationship, her wealth and her plans to move home, then fans will naturally ask what else she has not been honest about.
Imran’s sudden success may also bring pressure of its own. A tech millionaire returning to the village sounds exciting, but money often changes relationships in soapland. It can create jealousy, mistrust, unrealistic expectations and dangerous assumptions. For Misbah, seeing her son return so changed could bring pride — but also confusion over the life he has built away from her.
Leah’s return also comes with a major recast. Charlotte Riley has taken over the role from Ela-May Demircan, who played Leah for many years before leaving in 2024. Ela-May previously said she would have liked to return, but wished Charlotte and the team well as the character moves in a new direction.
That casting change gives Leah’s comeback an extra layer of curiosity. This is a familiar character, but she is returning with a different face, a different lifestyle and a relationship nobody expected. That makes her feel both recognisable and unpredictable.
The storyline also appears set to affect Vicky, who sees Leah loved up and successful and begins questioning what she wants from her own life. Leah supports her and notices a possible connection between Vicky and Prince, hinting that she may try to play matchmaker.
