Coronation Street and Emmerdale fans are facing another frustrating schedule shake-up tonight as ITV’s World Cup coverage pushes both soaps off air.
There will be no new episode of either soap on Wednesday, 17 June, meaning viewers hoping for their usual dose of Weatherfield and the Dales will have to wait a little longer. ITV is clearing the evening schedule for England’s World Cup match against Croatia, leaving both Corrie and Emmerdale temporarily sidelined.
The disruption does not stop there. Fans will also be without both soaps on Thursday, 18 June, as football coverage continues to dominate ITV’s evening line-up.
It is another major change in what has already become a stop-start period for soap viewers. With the World Cup taking over prime-time slots, ITV has been moving episodes around, extending some instalments and dropping others from the schedule completely on certain nights.
Earlier this week, fans were given longer episodes to make up for previous gaps, with Emmerdale and Coronation Street both airing extended instalments. But tonight’s football clash means the soaps are missing again.
The good news is that the wait will not be too long.
Both shows are currently expected to return on Friday, 19 June. Emmerdale is due to air at 8pm, followed by Coronation Street at 8:30pm, with both returning in their standard 30-minute format.
For Emmerdale fans, the break comes at a tense time, with Charity still struggling after the Dr Todd fallout, Cain and Moira under pressure, and Archie’s £5,000 scam against Caleb threatening to explode.
For Coronation Street viewers, the timing is just as dramatic. Weatherfield is in the middle of huge storylines involving Theo Silverton’s killer reveal, Kit and Sarah’s proposal drama, Sam Blakeman’s health diagnosis and the Webster family chaos.
That is why the schedule change may feel especially frustrating. Both soaps are currently building toward major twists, but viewers will have to pause the drama while ITV focuses on live football.
Still, soap fans should keep an eye on ITVX and updated listings, as schedules can continue shifting during major sports tournaments.
For now, the message is simple: no Corrie or Emmerdale tonight.
