Louise and her partner Ryan, both 35, revealed last week that they were considering asking Pete to be godfather to their four-year-old son, explaining that he would be “cool” and that he’s naturally good with children and animals. Now, Pete has confirmed just how meaningful the role is to him — admitting he’s genuinely excited by the responsibility.

Speaking on the Staying Relevant podcast with his best friend Sam Thompson, who is also Louise’s brother, Pete revealed that he and Leo instantly clicked.

Pete replied: 'Would I be a good godfather? No listen, me and Leo spent some time together and Sam got jealous'

“They asked you to be godfather! I’m f***ing fuming,” Sam joked on the podcast.

Pete replied with a laugh: “Would I be a good godfather? No — listen, me and Leo spent some time together and Sam got jealous.”

Sam admitted he didn’t see it coming. “I’ve known that kid since he was born, and the moment he sees ‘Uncle Pete’… you just gravitate towards each other,” he said.

Pete continued: 'Yeah Leo and I got on like a house of fire. I don't spend time with kids, I'm not great with kids but Leo is great, he is my new little pal'

Pete went on to describe how naturally their connection formed.
“Leo and I got on like a house of fire,” he explained. “I don’t spend time with kids, I’m not great with kids — but Leo is great. He’s my new little pal.”

'I am genuinely excited for when he turns 18. It's given me something to live for being a godfather, a godfather rights is taking your godson for his first legal pint,' he said

In a surprisingly heartfelt moment, Pete revealed just how much the role has come to mean to him.
“I am genuinely excited for when he turns 18,” he said. “It’s given me something to live for, being a godfather. Godfather rights is taking your godson for his first legal pint.”

Despite admitting he doesn’t see himself as father material, Pete said he’s more than happy to embrace babysitting duties.
“I don’t think I’d be a good father, but I can’t f***ing wait to babysit,” he said. “People assume I’m risky — that I’ll give him Guinness and teach him to swear — but I can hold myself together.”

Sam, while jokingly admitting he’s “a bit hurt” that his nephew seems to prefer Pete, said it was genuinely touching to watch the bond develop. In a YouTube video filmed for the podcast, Pete and Leo were seen spending the day together — eating ice lollies, wearing matching dungarees and playing games on the sofa.

“It was lovely to see you sat with Leo and bond with him,” Sam admitted. “It was really nice.”

The idea of Pete becoming godfather was first raised on Louise and Ryan’s He Said, She Said podcast, where Louise explained why she felt he would be perfect for the role.

“Pete doesn’t necessarily like that many adults,” she joked, “but he’s very good with kids and animals. I think it’s important for Leo to have lots of cool godparents around him.”

Ryan appeared momentarily confused, before Louise added: “I noticed that him and Pete have this really strong bond. They have so much in common — they basically live on ice creams.”

Louise also revealed that Pete has already left his mark on Leo’s vocabulary — teaching him a phrase she described as “wildly inappropriate.”

Laughing, she explained: “His new favourite thing to say is ‘blood of hell!’ He says it about 100 times a day now.”

The close-knit dynamic comes amid Pete’s enduring friendship with Sam, which began after they met on Celebs Go Dating in 2017. The pair launched Staying Relevant in 2022, toured the UK in 2024, sold out London’s O2 Arena last year, and went on to publish a Sunday Times bestseller about their friendship.

Speaking previously about their bond, Sam described Pete as a grounding presence in his life, while Pete admitted their friendship works because they balance each other’s strengths and weaknesses.

As Pete steps into his new role as godfather, fans have been quick to praise the softer side of a man often known for his tough exterior — proving that sometimes, the most meaningful chapters arrive when you least expect them.
