Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s life after royal disgrace is being described as increasingly lonely, with reports suggesting the former prince is facing a bleak summer away from the public stage he once occupied.
The 66-year-old has kept a noticeably low profile since leaving Royal Lodge in Windsor and moving to Marsh Farm on the King’s Sandringham estate. Unlike working members of the Royal Family, his diary appears largely empty, and recent sightings have been rare. He is now usually seen only close to home, often walking his dogs or slipping quietly into nearby events.

One of his most recent appearances came at the Sandringham Horse Driving Trials, where he was reportedly spotted watching from a secluded area while the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh were also present. Witnesses claimed Andrew appeared determined not to attract attention, arriving and leaving quietly after Sophie took part in the SanDrivingHam Challenge.
The outing came after reports earlier this year that Prince Edward and Duchess Sophie had become the first senior royals to visit Andrew at Marsh Farm following his departure from Royal Lodge. That visit was described as a brotherly welfare check, but public support for Andrew from within the family remains limited.

The contrast with his former life has been stark. Andrew was reportedly excluded entirely from this year’s Order of the Garter events, a painful reminder of a ceremony where he once had a role. In previous years, even after stepping back from public life, he had still attended some private elements of the occasion. This year, sources claimed the exclusion underlined just how far he has fallen.
Security is also said to be weighing heavily on him. After an alleged incident near his Norfolk home, Andrew reportedly remains concerned about threats from fixated individuals and believes he continues to face risk despite no longer being a working royal. Sources close to the situation have argued that he cannot simply be ‘un-invented’ as a royal figure, even after losing titles and public status.
His public image has continued to deteriorate because of his association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and the wider controversies that led to his fall from grace. Even memorabilia once linked to his military service now appears tainted. A pair of flying gloves said to have been worn by Andrew during the Falklands War recently failed to attract a single bid at auction, despite once being expected to sell for a significant sum.

Reports also claim Andrew remains resistant to the scale of his downfall. He is said to feel he has been used as a scapegoat and to believe the King exceeded his authority by removing his titles. Other claims suggest he still insists on royal forms of address within his private home, despite the public stripping away of his former status.
His move from the 30-room Royal Lodge to the much smaller Marsh Farm is said to have been especially difficult. The property reportedly has five bedrooms, a major change from the home and staffing arrangements he previously enjoyed. Claims that he was offered only limited household support from Sandringham staff were said to have gone down badly.
Adding to the sense of collapse is the reported strain in Andrew’s relationship with Sarah Ferguson. The former couple once famously described themselves as extremely close after divorce, but recent reports suggest they are now not speaking as much. Sarah has not been seen publicly for months and is said to have been staying discreetly with loyal friends in different locations.

For Andrew, the months ahead appear far removed from the privilege, status and visibility he once knew. With few public appearances, limited family association and ongoing scrutiny around his past, his summer in Norfolk is being framed as another chapter in a dramatic royal downfall that shows little sign of ending soon.
