A fundraiser has been launched to bring the body of a “beautiful” young woman home to Scotland following a tragic car crash in Ireland.
Chloe Hipson sadly died in the two-vehicle collision in the townland of Gibstown in Dundalk, County Louth, at 9pm on Saturday.
The 21-year-old from Bellshill died with four others who have been named as Chloe McGee, 23, Alan McCluskey, 23, Dylan Commins, 23, and Shay Duffy, 21. They were from the Republic of Ireland.
The survivor, from Ardee, was being treated for serious but non-life threatening injuries in hospital last night. A fundraiser has now been set up to bring Chloe’s body home to her family with more than £17,000 raised.
A statement from Bellshill Amateurs FC, who launched the GoFundMe, reads: “Hi everyone, we as a club at Bellshill Amateurs were absolutely devastated to hear of the passing of 21-year-old Chloe Hipson.
“Chloe sadly passed away after being involved in a road traffic collision in Ireland. A young woman ready to live her life taken from her family far too soon.
“Chloe is the younger sister of current player Ryan and we don’t have the words to convey how devastated we are for Ryan and his full family.
“We are looking to help the Hipson family raise funds towards funeral costs and the costs of bringing Chloe home so that they can say their goodbyes properly and give her the loving send off she deserves. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.”
Chloe’s mum Toni Hipson led the tributes by changing her profile picture on Facebook to an image of her daughter. Her cousin Elizabeth Elliot said the family have been left “broken” by the news.
Speaking to the Record, she said: “Chloe was a beautiful, smart soul and did life right. She was loved by so many and this has left the biggest dent in the family with her gaining her wings so early.
“She will be with her granda Billy Hipson in heaven now. So heartbroken. Your mum and dad and brothers gave you the best life there is and that’s how you were such an angel. We are all here to support the Hipson’s in this cruel and sad time. Goodnight Chloe. Rest in peace now. We are all heartbroken for you. Everyone is so broken.”
Chloe was pictured celebrating her 21st birthday at a party just two months ago. It’s understood she was a second year student at the Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT) where she was studying to become a quantity surveyor.
She is believed to have moved to Ireland to work for a construction firm after graduating from South Lanarkshire College. Gardai said Chloe and her friends were heading to Dundalk for a night out when the tragedy happened.
It’s understood the pals met up in a restaurant before they all got into a Golf to head to Dundalk. Sources say the car went on fire immediately after the collision – and investigators believe it was a miracle one of the occupants survived.

Police inquiries into the collision are ongoing.
Irish President Catherine Connolly said: “As President of Ireland, I am deeply saddened and shocked by the loss of five precious young lives in Louth last night. I am thinking of them, their families and of those injured. May I acknowledge also all those first responders who have worked to support all involved.”
