Labour MP Luke Pollard appeared on Good Morning Britain to discuss bills increasing and Keir Starmerâs reaction to the uproar. He told the hosts Ranvir Singh and Kate Garraway that Starmer is keen to ensure the Strait of Hormuz is opened to ensure bills will come down. The MP was passionately stating âwe wonât accept itâ as he responded to questions from the hosts, but Ranvir soon interjected to start cutting him off.
Ranvir asked: âDo we pay Iran?â, in relation to opening the Strait of Hormuz, prompting Pollard to say: âNo we donât accept that. If we accept tolls in the Strait of Hormuz it would encourage other nations to do the same.â He fumed: âThis would not help our international situation if we accept that Iranian position which we do NOT accept. Thatâs why ââ, before getting cut off by Ranvir.

She started: âWell Luke Pollardââ before laughing and said: âI thought youâd finished, sorry.â and then he continued to rage once again âwe wonât accept itâ, as she stopped in her tracks and apologised. It was clear that she was about to wrap up the segment because once he had finished his rant she started once again to thank him for appearing on the show.
He added once again: âJust making the case that we wonât accept tolls. We will keep going for freedom of clarification through the Strait of Hormuz and thatâs the only sustainable way to bring down prices, allowing the tankers through again.â
Following his appearance, people rushed to X to complain about his interview, one user wrote: âGMB why do you bother having any MPâs on they never care answer any question you ask fully. Today Luke pollard evaded answering about the full costs and impact on the general public and talked about the money Rachel Reeves has put aside for oil users and the ÂŁ117 a year savings.â

Another fumed: âAbsolute idiot Luke PollardâŠwe are FED UP infact sick to the back teeth of this rabble of a government, stating the bleâŠ..ing obvious is all they ever do.â
It comes as the UK has been reported to have a âjobâ to help open the strait of Hormuz, as said by Keir Starmer, with Iranian reports saying the key shipping route had been closed again hours after the ceasefire. The Prime Minister met British and local military personnel at an airbase in Saudi Arabia to pull together a plan for how a ceasefire might operate in Ukraine.
The ceasefire was agreed an hour before the deadline set by Donald Trump who had threatened that Iranâs âwhole civilisationâ would die if it didnât meet the US demands.
As part of these terms, the strait of Hormuz was due to be reopened with Starmerâs trip focused on discussing how it could happen in practice.
