Warning: Spoilers ahead for The Testaments season 1, episode 8!
Wedding bells are ringing in Gilead — whether Agnes (Chase Infiniti) is ready to walk down the aisle or not.
In season 1, episode 8 of The Testaments, Agnes becomes engaged to one of Gilead’s most powerful Commanders and is quickly swept into wedding preparations, from choosing cake flavors to floral arrangements. But Agnes is hardly excited about the engagement, as she wishes she were marrying her Guardian, Garth (Brad Alexander).
Meanwhile, Daisy (Lucy Halliday) is facing a life-changing development of her own: becoming eligible for marriage — a scenario she likely never imagined when she entered Gilead undercover as a member of Mayday.
So, what happened in season 1, episode 8 of The Testaments? Here’s a breakdown of everything that unfolded.
Who is Agnes engaged to?

In episode 8, Agnes gets engaged to Commander Weston (Reed Diamond), a high-ranking Gilead Commander and the head of the Eyes.
But after learning that Garth, the man she loves, is set to marry her best friend, Becka (Mattea Conforti), Agnes struggles to hide her disappointment from her new fiancé.
Still, Weston makes a deliberate effort to put Agnes at ease, even standing up for her when her stepmother, Paula (Amy Seimetz), tries to take over the wedding decisions.
“It’s your wedding, it’s not hers. I want this to be fun for you,” Weston tells Agnes. “I’m really excited about our future together. I was kind of hoping that excitement might be contagious.”
What is Daisy trying to hide from the Aunts?

While Agnes is trying to wrap her mind around becoming Commander Weston’s wife, Daisy gets her period, making her eligible for marriage.
But as an undercover Mayday member, marriage is the last thing Daisy wants, and she has no intention of telling the Aunts about her health news.
In a twist, though, Shunammite (Rowan Blanchard) catches Daisy in the bathroom trying to clean her underwear, and Daisy begs her not to tell anyone. Later in the episode, Agnes quietly gives Daisy pads, revealing that Shunammite told her what happened.
“Shu told you? Who else did she tell, the Aunts?” Daisy asks.
“No, she would never,” Agnes replies. “You don’t turn on your friends, ever. Not here at least.”
Who did Dr. Grove assault after Agnes?

While playing croquet, Agnes notices that Hulda (Isolde Ardies) looks visibly upset and presses her to tell her what’s wrong. Hulda then shares that Becka’s dad, Dr. Grove (Randal Edwards), sexually assaulted her.
“I had a cleaning with Dr. Grove. He took my hand and pressed it against his body. I didn’t know what to do,” she says. “I betrayed the flesh and His word, and now I’m going to burn in hell forever and ever. I sinned. I tempted him. It’s my fault.”
Having also been assaulted by Dr. Grove, Agnes insists that Hulda tell the Aunts. But when Hulda goes to Aunt Vidala (Mabel Li), she convinces Hulda that she’s “confused” and that it was “her own ill imagination at work.”
Still troubled by the situation and tormented by what Dr. Grove did to her, Agnes speaks to Aunt Lydia (Ann Dowd).
“[Hulda is] telling the truth. I’m sure of it. I’m very sure,” Agnes tells her.
Aunt Lydia understands what Agnes is implying and assures her that once she is married, she will be protected — and powerful enough in her own right to suggest that Dr. Grove be dealt with.
