CORONATION STREET And EMMERDALE Pulled From ITV In Latest Schedule Shake-Up As Football Takes Over Primetime

Coronation Street and Emmerdale fans are facing another ITV schedule shake-up, as both soaps are being moved aside for live football coverage.

The latest change means viewers expecting their usual weekday “soap power hour” will need to check the TV guide carefully. Since January 2026, ITV has been airing Emmerdale at 8pm followed by Coronation Street at 8.30pm from Monday to Friday, creating a back-to-back soap block designed to make the schedule easier for fans.

But live sport continues to disrupt that plan.

Digital Spy’s soaps account reported that Coronation Street and Emmerdale have been replaced by football in the latest schedule changes. That means both Weatherfield and the Dales are being pushed out of their normal ITV slots, creating another frustrating night for loyal viewers who have already had to adjust to multiple timetable changes this year.

The wider problem is that ITV’s soap schedule has been under pressure for months. Reports have noted that, despite the new “soap power hour”, Coronation Street and Emmerdale are still expected to face repeated disruption because major sporting events take priority in primetime. The Sun Ireland reported last month that the chaos could continue for months, with the World Cup expected to create even more uncertainty around when soaps can air.

For fans, the frustration is easy to understand. Soap viewing depends on habit. Viewers know when to sit down, when to catch up, and when the next cliffhanger is coming. When episodes are suddenly moved, replaced or shifted to another night, that rhythm is broken — and it becomes easier to miss a major twist.

The January 2026 schedule change was supposed to simplify things. ITV cut both soaps into shorter 30-minute weekday episodes and placed them together in one nightly block. The launch also came with the huge Corriedale crossover, a one-off special that brought Coronation Street and Emmerdale together in a major event episode.

But even that new structure cannot protect the soaps from football, rugby and other live events. When ITV gives primetime over to sport, Emmerdale and Coronation Street are the first shows fans notice missing.

The good news is that these schedule changes are usually temporary. Both soaps remain central to ITV’s weekday line-up, and episodes are often moved to another date or made easier to catch through ITVX. But fans may need to rely more heavily on streaming and updated listings while sport continues to dominate parts of the calendar.

For now, the message is simple: do not assume Emmerdale and Coronation Street are airing in their usual slots.

Check ITVX, check the TV guide, and keep an eye on revised air dates — because in 2026, the drama is not only happening in Weatherfield and the Dales.

It is happening on the schedule too.
