Antiques Roadshow expert Theo Burrell was rushed to hospital last week after experiencing a worrying symptom. The Edinburgh-based BBC antiques enthusiast is battling a brain tumour, being diagnosed with glioblastoma in 2021 after suffering from migraines so strong she could not even lie down.

After initially being told she had around three months to live if she didn’t undergo surgery, Theo went under the knife and has gone through chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Now she has been taken back to hospital after her temperature spiked, revealing her latest scan results with her followers on Instagram.

Posting a picture looking over the rooftops of Edinburgh, Theo wrote: “This room with a view was at the Western General where I got admitted on Thursday due to a high temperature.

“The brilliant staff got me back on my feet and I’ve made it home to enjoy some of this warm weather. I’m now on my 4th set of antibiotics since January!

“It’s all been a bit rough but in good news I got the temporary reprieve of stable scan results at the beginning of May. How long that lasts, we shall see, but I’ll take it for now. The immediate plan is to avoid a 5th batch of antibiotics and rest!

“Cancer certainly throws you so many curve balls – it’s not just getting on top of your bad cells it’s also (amongst many things) about staying bug free when your immunity is low and compromised.”

She added: “This photo shows Edinburgh’s best including the castle. My room mate Jackie and I felt we’d lucked out with this room despite the fact we were in hospital and not a hotel!

“This is one of Jackie’s favourite pieces of music, so it’s for her. Thank you to my friend CTF @dramfool_whisky for visiting me with a bag full of treats and real coffee!!”

Fans rushed to support Theo, with one writing: “You’re in a great place Theo and I remember that view from one of my stays, glorious on a day like today.”

Another said: “What a bundle of mixed emotions. Yay to the stable scans and boo to antibiotics. Hope you’re back to being well soon xx.”
