HOT! ITV Invites “Golden Couple” Tess Daly and Vernon Kay to Become the New This Morning Hosts as Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard’s Contracts Near Their End

ITV bosses are reportedly considering TV’s much-loved husband-and-wife duo Tess Daly and Vernon Kay as potential future hosts of This Morning, as the channel looks to refresh the show’s appeal and boost ratings.

According to reports, the pair could be lined up for the coveted presenting roles once the current contracts of hosts Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard come to an end later this spring.

The speculation follows Tess, 56, appearing alongside her husband Vernon, 51, during a one-off special of The One Show last month — a moment that reportedly caught the attention of ITV executives.

The appearance marked Tess’s first major TV role since stepping down from Strictly Come Dancing after an extraordinary 21-year run as host. Viewers quickly embraced her return to primetime television, praising the couple’s natural chemistry and relaxed style.

Their joint appearance also stirred memories of their previous collaboration on the BBC singing competition Just the Two of Us, which they hosted together between 2006 and 2007.

Insiders say that the couple’s effortless dynamic immediately sparked interest among television executives. One source told The Sun that the decision seemed obvious the moment bosses saw them together on The One Show sofa.

The insider explained that ITV executives have long admired Vernon’s presenting style, but seeing the pair interact as a couple made them realise something had been missing from This Morning. According to the source, their playful husband-and-wife banter reminded bosses of the legendary presenting partnership of Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan.

The source added that ITV has been eager to recreate that same magic, saying audiences can often be sceptical about new hosts, but viewers appeared instantly charmed by Tess and Vernon’s warm northern personalities.

The couple’s recent television reunion was their first time presenting together in nearly two decades. They stepped in to host The One Show while regular presenters Alex Jones and Roman Kemp were away filming the BBC storytelling competition 500 Words at Windsor Castle.

During the broadcast, they interviewed a line-up of major stars including Hollywood actresses Jessie Buckley and Maggie Gyllenhaal, along with Bridgerton actors Luke Thompson and Yerin Ha.

Fans quickly flooded social media with praise for Tess’s return to TV. Some viewers commented that it was lovely to see her back on screen with her husband, while others wrote that the pair presenting together was “everything” and said they hoped to see them return again soon.

Tess and Vernon first met early in their careers while working as presenters on different TV channels. At the time, Vernon hosted Channel 4’s youth programme T4, while Tess fronted the popular Saturday morning show SMTV on ITV.

Their relationship soon blossomed, and they quickly became one of Britain’s best-known television couples.

Reflecting on the early days of their romance in a previous interview, Tess admitted their connection was immediate. She said they had an instant blast together and joked that their chemistry was “pretty explosive”.

Discussing how their relationship has evolved over time, Tess explained that long-term love requires constant effort. She said you have to keep the fire burning and continue to nurture the relationship.

She also teased her husband about maturity, joking that although Vernon has grown up over the years, men never really catch up mentally with women.

The couple married in 2003 at St Mary’s Church in Horwich, Vernon’s hometown. Instead of hosting a lavish celebrity wedding, they opted for a more low-key celebration with close friends and family.

Among the carefully selected guests were Big Brother winner Brian Dowling and presenter June Sarpong, while DJ Brandon Block provided music for the reception.

More than two decades later, Tess and Vernon remain one of British television’s most enduring couples and share two daughters together — Phoebe Elizabeth, 21, and Amber Isabella Kay, 16.

If ITV bosses ultimately decide to bring the duo to This Morning, viewers could soon see one of TV’s most beloved couples become the next big presenting partnership on the daytime show.
