Piers Morgan erupted in a fiery on-air clash as he tore into a pro-Iran guest — demanding to know why he’s allowed to criticise the West but won’t face the same scrutiny at home. The Uncensored host went head-to-head with Seyed Mohammad Marandi in a tense exchange that quickly escalated into a row over free speech. Piers, 60, kicked things off with a blunt challenge, saying: “I’ve had you on my show many, many times, right? When do I get invited on Iranian state television?”
Marandi fired back: “I invited you to Iran, Piers, and you the coward refused to come”. But Piers wasn’t backing down as he accused Marandi of slamming Britain and protecting the Iranian regime. He said: “I’ll do it like you do, down the barrel of the camera, you put me on Iranian television and let me say what I think about Iranian state television in the way that I let you come on my show and criticise my country and the United States and the west.”

He continued: “Fair is fair, right, professor? Cos you’ve got freedom of speech in Iran there should be no problem in me, Piers Morgan, going on Iranian state television and hammering your regime.”
Piers then accused Iran’s leadership of suppressing dissent, adding: “Only you won’t let that happen and the regime won’t let it happen because amongst the many things that you repress the biggest thing you repress is freedom of speech.”
He went on: “That’s why you can’t talk out against your regime and that’s why you wouldn’t let me go on State TV in Iran and talk against your regime and that is the difference between us.”
The heated exchange came during a wider panel discussion on Iran, with Marandi appearing as a regular commentator on Middle East affairs.
The Iranian academic, who often appears on Western shows backing Tehran, is no stranger to on-air rows — but Piers targeted what he branded a clear double standard.
He said: “So you can try and take the high moral ground but the reality is that is the difference”.
