Now we can reveal Tom — who presents the weekday Drive show on LBC — entered discussions to join the guest presenting roster after receiving rave reviews about his stint.
An insider told The Sun: “It’s early days but there are conversations being had about Tom returning in the near future.
“He was an instant hit with viewers, managing to connect with them effortlessly through the screen.
“Although he’s an established broadcaster, he’s new to Good Morning Britain and it’s thought he’ll help to shake up the status quo a bit.”
As revealed by The Sun earlier this year, GMB struggled to find a ratings-hit replacement for Piers Morgan following his sudden exit in 2021.
Ever since then, Susanna has co-presented alongside a rotating selection of guest hosts including former Labour politician Ed.
We told in April how ITV bosses are facing growing pressure to axe the ex-politician – who is married to the current foreign secretary Yvette Cooper.
It came after his dramatic on air meltdown in a clip that quickly went viral after Green Party leader Zack Polanski complained about being interviewed by the spouse of a person in government.
When Ed has previously been on leave from the breakfast show, Susanna’s close friend Rob Rinder has stepped up to the plate.
Richard Madeley is also a frequent flyer as well Adil Ray and Martin Lewis.
The trio have all been embroiled in controversies while presenting the show — including Martin’s recent rant while standing over Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch when he ambushed her interview.
BBC’s Morning Live presenter Gordon Smart was popular with viewers when he was brought in over the festive period two years ago, but failed to land a regular spot.
All eyes are now on whether Tom will become the latest fresh face to join the ITV show.
He has been a regular contributor to This Morning — reviewing the newspapers’ biggest stories of the day with hosts Cat Deeley and Ben Shepherd.
He hosted alongside veteran presenter Ranvir Singh last week while Ed and Susanna were on half-term break.
When approached by The Sun about Tom’s future on Good Morning Britain, a spokesman said: “GMB features different guest presenters when the show’s main presenters are on annual leave.”
