As Marco Rubio rises on the global stage as the United States Secretary of State, the woman who’s been by his side for decades, Jeanette Dousdebes Rubio, is capturing more attention than ever. Recently accompanying her husband to the Vatican for an important diplomatic mission, Jeanette’s unwavering support continues to be an integral part of Rubio’s journey.
A Love Story Decades in the Making
Jeanette and Marco’s love story began long before the political spotlight ever shone on them. They met in 1990 at the West Miami Recreation Center, when Jeanette was a high school student and Marco a college attendee. The chemistry was instant, and their bond only deepened over the years, culminating in Marco’s heartfelt proposal at the Empire State Building—an homage to Jeanette’s favorite film, Sleepless in Seattle. They tied the knot in 1998, marking the beginning of a partnership that would navigate the highs and lows of public life.
The couple is now proud parents of four children: Amanda, Daniella, Anthony, and Dominick.
From Cheerleader to Advocate
Before becoming the wife of one of America’s most high-profile political figures, Jeanette had her own moment in the limelight as a cheerleader for the Miami Dolphins. Joining the squad in 1997 alongside her sister Adriana, Jeanette even graced the pages of the team’s first swimsuit calendar. However, the spotlight didn’t come naturally to her. Jeanette, who has always been more reserved, admitted that she found the environment tough, and left the squad in 1998—just a year before she married Marco.
Her transition from the spotlight to advocacy was seamless, however. Jeanette later attended the International Fine Arts College but paused her studies to raise her growing family.

Advocacy: A Passion Beyond the Politics
While Jeanette might shy away from the glare of public attention, her impact in South Florida and beyond cannot be understated. Through her leadership of JDR Consulting, Inc., she champions numerous charitable initiatives. A passionate advocate for vulnerable children, Jeanette has made strides in the fight against human trafficking.

Her devotion to this cause was formally recognized when she was appointed to Florida’s Statewide Council on Human Trafficking in 2020 by Governor Ron DeSantis, a role she was reappointed to in 2022. Jeanette’s advocacy also extends to Kristi House, a Miami-based organization supporting children affected by abuse and exploitation, particularly those caught in the horrific cycle of sex trafficking.
A Quiet Force
Jeanette has always preferred a quieter, more private life outside the political frenzy. Despite this, her presence alongside Marco during high-profile diplomatic moments, such as his recent meeting with Pope Leo at the Vatican, showcases her growing role in global conversations. Still, she remains grounded, often describing Marco not just as her husband but her best friend.
