Jude Bellingham found himself at the centre of a heated World Cup flashpoint after clashing with Ghana’s bench during England’s frustrating 0-0 draw in Boston.
The incident happened just before half-time, when Bellingham made a late challenge on Ghana defender Jerome Opoku. The tackle immediately sparked anger from the Ghana bench, with members of Carlos Queiroz’s staff reacting furiously.
Bellingham, clearly frustrated by England’s struggles to break down Ghana’s defensive wall, appeared to respond angrily. The exchange quickly escalated, with Queiroz also becoming involved before the situation was cooled down.
After the match, the Ghana manager explained that he had tried to calm Bellingham down, but claimed the England midfielder reacted with strong language. Queiroz later played down the row, describing it as an emotional moment in a high-pressure World Cup match.
Thomas Tuchel defended Bellingham, insisting the Real Madrid star had simply stood up for himself and his team. The England boss also refused to portray the incident as anything more than competitive tension.
On the pitch, however, the frustration was obvious.
England dominated possession but could not find a way through Ghana’s compact and disciplined structure. Harry Kane was tightly marked, Bellingham struggled to influence the game as freely as usual, and England’s wide players found little space behind the defence.
The best chance came late on when Nico O’Reilly struck the crossbar, but Kane could not convert the rebound. Marc Guéhi also had an effort cleared off the line as Ghana survived the late pressure.
For Ghana, the draw felt like a tactical victory. Queiroz’s plan worked almost perfectly, frustrating England and keeping his side unbeaten in Group L.
For England, the result and the touchline row told the same story: this was a night when patience, discipline and creativity were all tested.
