MARSHALS Finale Leaves Fans Emotional With Heartfelt Tribute To Late Prop Master Leonard “Lenny” Hancock Jr.

The Marshals Season 1 finale ended with a touching tribute that left many viewers searching for answers.

After the drama of the finale unfolded, the CBS Yellowstone spin-off displayed a card reading: “In loving memory of Leonard ‘Lenny’ E. Hancock Jr.” For fans watching at home, the name may not have been instantly familiar. But behind the scenes, Hancock was an essential part of the production — the show’s prop master, responsible for helping make the world of Marshals feel real, detailed and believable.

As prop master, Lenny Hancock’s work went far beyond simply placing objects on set. Props help tell a story without words. They shape how characters move, how their histories are suggested, and how authentic a world feels to the audience. On a show like Marshals, where law enforcement gear, tactical details and character-specific equipment matter, that role becomes even more important.

CBS also shared a video in which Hancock explained how he created distinct vests for different characters. He said accuracy mattered deeply to him, especially with the police vests used on the show. He also described how small details helped reflect each character’s background, including differences in gear for Kayce, Cal, Belle and Andrea.

That attention to detail is exactly why his work mattered. Viewers may not always notice every prop consciously, but they feel the difference when a world looks lived-in and authentic. Hancock helped create that feeling for Marshals.

Sadly, Leonard “Lenny” E. Hancock Jr. died in December 2025 at the age of 54 after a UTV accident in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. Reports said he lost control of the vehicle, which rolled several times, and he died at the scene.

Before his passing, Hancock had shared his excitement about working on Marshals in Park City, Utah, calling it his home for several months and saying he hoped to return in the spring for Season 2. That detail makes the finale tribute even more heartbreaking, because it shows how closely connected he still was to the show’s future.

Hancock also had a long career in film and television. His credits included work on SEAL Team, CSI: NY, CSI: Cyber, S.W.A.T., Jarhead and Transformers, among other projects. For years, he helped build the physical worlds that actors step into and audiences believe in.

Outside his work, he was also a father. His son, Aidan Hancock, later created a fundraiser to continue pursuing his racing career, writing about how his father had been his biggest supporter and the foundation behind that dream.

So who was Leonard Hancock Jr. on Marshals? He was not an on-screen character, but his fingerprints were all over the show. He helped give the series its texture, realism and identity.

The tribute card was a quiet but powerful reminder that television is built by many people viewers rarely see.

And for Marshals, Lenny Hancock’s work will remain part of the world he helped create.
