Nancy Guthrie Search Takes Chilling New Turn After Anonymous Mexico Tip Sparks Major Operation

The search for Nancy Guthrie has taken another dramatic and deeply unsettling turn after an anonymous tip reportedly sent volunteers and officials to an area near the US-Mexico border.

People digging in dry, rocky terrain to locate missing persons.

Guthrie, 84, the mother of Today show host Savannah Guthrie, has been missing since February after authorities said they believed she was taken from her Tucson, Arizona home. Months later, the case remains active, with no confirmed breakthrough and no public confirmation of her whereabouts.

According to reports, a Mexican missing persons group received an anonymous call claiming that Guthrie could be located in an unmarked site near the Mariposa area, northwest of Nogales. The tip reportedly gave enough detail to trigger a serious search operation.

Ramona Guadalupe Ayala Ortiz, who leads Buscando Corazones Nogales, said the group searched the area mentioned by the caller. The same wider region had previously been linked to the discovery of multiple unmarked sites, adding to the urgency and concern surrounding the latest lead.

However, the search did not produce the result many feared or hoped for. Investigators and volunteers reportedly found no confirmed trace of Guthrie during the operation, leaving the case surrounded by more unanswered questions.

The search was carried out with support from local and state officials, including security personnel to protect volunteers working in the remote area. Despite the setback, search groups have indicated they may continue looking in the region as part of wider efforts to locate missing people.

Guthrie vanished from her Catalina Foothills home in the early hours of February 1. Authorities have treated the case as a suspected abduction, with investigators previously focusing on evidence from her home and footage involving a masked figure.

For Savannah Guthrie and her family, the uncertainty has been agonising. The latest Mexico tip has reignited public attention, but officials have urged caution as no discovery has been confirmed.

For now, the anonymous tip has not solved the mystery. Instead, it has added another haunting chapter to a case that continues to trouble investigators, family members and followers across the country.
