GB News was paused for a tragic update on the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East. GB News Home and Security Editor Mark White reacted to the news that four civilians have been k!lled after a building in Haifa, Israel, was struck by an Iranian missile. He explained that “it’s very clear” that Iran still has capability to launch missiles and drones.

Viewers were shown images of destroyed buildings in Haifa, in the north of Israel, with Mark stating that Israeli media have confirmed that four people were k!lled after becoming trapped under the rubble when the building was struck overnight. Mark said: “That’s a significant loss of life and it shows you that drones and missiles are getting through very well into this war. Iran still has a capability – vastly reduced from what it was – but it’s still got enough of a capability to regularly lob missiles and drones over at, not just Israel, but surrounding countries.”

US President Donald Trump recently gave Iran a deadline to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, while Iran warned of “much more devastating” retaliation in response.

GB News presenter Alex Armstrong questioned whether a ground invasion might be the only way to reopen the Strait of Hormuz if Iran refuse to do

Mark responded: “To an extent, yes, because what you’ve got is a long stretch right along the Persian Gulf of cliffs and other inlets where you can hide vessels.

“Men with missiles, drone launchers, all of that can be hidden in there and actually getting in at them and knowing where they are might take these marine forces to be launched and landed along the coast of Persian Gulf, with a view to actually physically look for them.

“That would be a difficult, protracted and potentially very costly exercise so the hope is you never have to get to that and there can be a negotiated solution that will lead to the opening up of the Strait of Hormuz.”

He pointed out that there could be another potential way forward if a peace deal isn’t made between Iran and the US, and that is for Trump to declare that the war has been won and pull away all together.

“At that point, there could be more meaningful negotiations between Iran and its neighbours to open up the Strait of Hormuz,” Mark added.
