James May has left fans devastated after making a heartbreaking d3ath announcement on social media. The former Grand Tour star, 63, shared that his beloved cat Bouncer passed away on Saturday (May 23), sharing an adorable snap of the feline on his adoption day, peeking through some railings and giving a cheeky look to the camera.

James wrote: “My mate Bouncer d!ed yesterday. He’d lived with us for 13 years as a furry, purring, permanently migrating ornament. I didn’t know I could feel such grief for a witless bag of bones who destroyed my favourite sofa and crapped in the shower tray.

“Below is a picture taken on the day he selected me at the animal shelter.”

Fans rushed to offer James their condolences, with GMB star Narinder Kaur writing: “I’m sorry to hear this James xx.”

Even the unofficial X account for 10 Downing Street cat Larry tweeted: “Sorry to learn of Bouncer’s passing James; he was a fine feline.”

Others shared photos of their own cats, with one explaining: “Aww man, what a cutie. They really do creep into one’s heart. Sorry for your loss. We also lost our boy quite suddenly 2 years ago. The only terrible thing about pets is that they simply don’t live long enough.”

Somebody else said: “After they are gone you still keep seeing them out the corner of your eye. For a while anyway.”

James has had many cats over the years, including his beloved feline Fusker, who he often discussed on Top Gear. He has also been a cat dad to Fluff, who also sadly died.

He admitted: “I last cried when my cat died. We were very close. His name was Fluff because he wasn’t long-haired, but still fluffy.
