Chuck Norris has died.
The actor, famous for his work on Walker, Texas Ranger star and in the martial arts, died “surrounded by his family and at peace” on March 19, a statement released by his loved ones via Instagram revealed.

“To the world, he was a martial artist, actor, and a symbol of strength. To us, he was a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, an incredible brother, and the heart of our family,” the statement read.
“He lived his life with faith, purpose, and an unwavering commitment to the people he loved. Through his work, discipline, and kindness, he inspired millions around the world and left a lasting impact on so many lives,” it concluded.
Born Carlos Ray Norris in Ryan, Okla. Norris served in the U.S. Air Force before he found fame in movies such as Way of the Dragon, A Force of One, The Octagon and more. He would later become a household name and bonafide action star when he played Ranger Cordell Walker in Walker, Texas Ranger from 1993 to 2001.
Norris was is survived by his wife Gena O’Kelley and five children Mike, Eric, Dina, Danilee and Dakota.

Carlos Ray Norris was born on March 10, 1940 in Ryan, Okla. His mother was Irish and his father was Cherokee. Norris opened up about his father’s alcoholism, and how it impacted their family, in his 1988 memoir The Secret of Inner Strength: My Story.
“It wasn’t until my dad came home from WWII that he really started to drink,” Norris told PEOPLE in 1988, saying that he would leave for months at a time, then return and upend the family’s life again.

After high school, Norris joined the Air Force as an air policeman in 1958 and was stationed in Korea. While there, he garnered the nickname “Chuck” and fell in love with karate, practicing daily until he attained expertise.

After he came back home, Norris began working as a karate teacher on the side. His classes became so popular they attracted celebrity clientele including Bob Barker, Marie Osmond and Steve McQueen, who encouraged him to try acting.

Norris appeared in projects such as Way of the Dragon, Yellow Faced Tiger, Breaker! Breaker!, Good Guys Wear Black, and more before he had his breakout role as Cordell Walker in 1993’s Walker Texas Ranger. The CBS show became a massive global hit, and ran from 1993 to 2001.
“I’ve finally gotten the show to where I want it, and that’s to a place where you really don’t know what to expect each Saturday,” Norris told the Los Angeles Times in 1996. “One week we might have an episode about the peer pressure on kids to become involved in street gang violence, and the next week is something that is fairly silly and humorous, and the next is a race-against-time type drama with Walker trying to rescue a child that is trapped in a well.”

Norris met ex-wife Diane Holechek when the two were still high schoolers in Torrance, Calif., and got married in 1958. They welcomed two sons, Mike and Eric, before going their separate ways in 1988. The two remained good friends and Norris paid tribute to Holechek upon her death in December 2025.
“Dianne was an incredible person. She was kind, intelligent, and lived life to the fullest. Her presence in my life will never be forgotten. She was also a loving and devoted mother to our sons, Mike and Eric, who were always her greatest pride,” he wrote on Facebook. She was 84.

Following his separation from Holechek, Norris found love with Gena O’Kelley, whom he met on the set of Walker, Texas Ranger.
“I remember thinking, ‘Oh, my gosh! She’s the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen,’ he told PEOPLE in 1999. “I finally got the courage to ask her out, and we definitely connected.”
The pair wed in 1998 and welcomed twins Dakota and Danilee in 2001.

In addition to Mike, Eric, Dakota and Danilee, Norris also welcomed another daughter named Dina in 1963 during an extramarital affair. He did not meet her until decades later.

On March 20, Norris’ loved ones announced via Instagram that the actor had died.
“It is with heavy hearts that our family shares the sudden passing of our beloved Chuck Norris yesterday morning,” the statement read. “While we would like to keep the circumstances private, please know that he was surrounded by his family and was at peace.”
