Penny Smith – 67 Years


British author and TV presenter Penny Smith became a household name when she joined the media industry in the late ‘70s. The star has had a successful journey presenting for popular media companies like BBC Radio London, Sky News, TalkRadio, GMTV, and Classic FM. She also became a regular participant on the 2022-launched media platform TalkTV.

Chris Tarrant is one of the most recognized TV hosts on British TV. He got his big break hosting a kid’s TV series called “Tiswas” from 1974 to 1981. That isn’t the most famous show he was even on. That title goes to the game show “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire.”
He hosted the show from 1998 to 2014 and became the most recognized host of its many international editions. He even presented the video game versions. Five people have won the coveted million-dollar prize in the 592 episodes Tarran recorded. Since leaving the show, he has worked on another called “Chris Tarrant: Extreme Railways.”

 

Trevor McDonald – 86 Years

Sir Trevor McDonald is such a legend of British TV that he was even knighted for his services in 1999. A veteran of over three decades, McDonald gained fame for his work as an anchor for the ITN News At 10, raising the popularity and ranking of the show during his time there.
He also has the distinction of retiring twice from his position at the channel. He initially retired in 2005 after spending 30 years in the job. In 2008 he was called back to relaunch a new and improved News at 10. He is also known for hosting the show “Tonight with Trevor McDonald.”

 

Julie Goodyear – 83 Years

Julie Goodyear has had one helluva ride. She is famous for her role in the longstanding soap opera Coronation Street. In it, she played Bet Lynch and earned a special recognition award at the National Television Awards in 1995 for the role. A year later, she wanted an MBE from the Queen.
The character was renowned for her beehive hairstyle and over-the-top dress sense. This served as the inspiration for Freddie Mercury’s drag character in the video for the song I Want To Break Free. Goodyear last appeared in a 2019 TV special called Coronation Street at Christmas.

Mike Harding – 80 Years

Mike Harding, who was born in England in 1944, is well-known for his hit songs and albums, including “The Rochdale Cowboy” and “One Man Show.” He also works as a stand-up comedian and humor writer, appearing on various BBC programs and authoring works like “The Unluckiest Man in the World” and British folktales such as “The Little Book of the Green Man.”
Along with the Lowe Brothers, he was a member of the band called Stylos. Before leaving in 2012 to launch “The Mike Harding Folk Show,” which continued broadcasting in 2022, Harding also hosted the weekly show on BBC Radio 2, “The Mike Harding Show.”

Roy Walker – 85 Years

Roy Walker is a comedian hailing from Northern Ireland. He started his career in the ’70s and is most known for his work in the show “Catchphrase,” for which he was the original host from 1986 to 1999. Steele played ‘Og, the leprechaun’ in the 1968 movie, “Finland’s Rainbow.” His great performances have seen him voted as the fourth most popular star at the English box office. He became an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 1973, and in 2020 he was knighted for his services to entertainment and charity.

Ade Edmondson – 68 Years

During the Swinging Sixties, there were very few people more iconic than Julie Christie. She was a beauty of note and renowned for being a regular centerfold magazine hottie. But she went beyond that and was an actress of immense skill who won the Golden Globe, BAFTA, Screen Actors Guild Award, and Academy awards.
These came thanks to notable performances in films like 1963’s Billy Liar and her Oscar-winning performance in 1965’s Darling. She also had a small role in the Harry Potter films and played a sultry and attractive grandmother in Red Riding Hood. She is filming her part for a 2022 documentary called John Schlesinger: Midnight Men.

Eileen Atkins – 88 Years

Having been around in the industry since 1953, Eileen Atkins has spent a lot of years searching for the validation her talent so rightfully deserves. She eventually got that in 2008. This was after winning a BAFTA TV Award and an Emmy Award for her performance in Cranford.
Her stage performances were much more appreciated, and she has three Oliver Awards to her name. She has starred in productions like The Unexpected Man and Honour. She is a screenwriter, too, and has created popular shows like Upstairs, Downstairs. Atkins is also recognized for her roles in Robin Hood, Gosford Park, and The Dresser.

Derek Jacobi – 84 Years

What does it take to be a great stage actor? Sir Derek Jacobi may have an answer because he was knighted to contribute to the industry. Some o his most notable roles include Shakespeare’s works like Hamlet, Macbeth, and King Lear. He also had a role in Anton Chekhov’s Uncle Vanya.
Through his passion for theater, he was a founding member of the Royal National Theatre. But he also has a few TV and film roles to his name, like the 1978 film I, Claudius, which is an adaptation of Robert Graves’s story. He earned a BAFTA Award for this performance and will star in 2021’s The Martini Shot.

Jennie Linden – 83 Years

If Sir Christopher Lee is the king of the golden age’s horror monsters, then Jennie Linden can be regarded as a pioneer in the scream queen market. She gained fame and earned her stripes for her role in classic British horror films like Nightmare.
However, her most significant achievement came in a romantic comedy, Women in Love. She was nominated for a BAFTA for the role of Ursula but didn’t win the award. She did start earning some top billing roles, though, including the 1974 film Vampira. She also featured in Doctor and last appeared in a 2020 documentary called Surge of Power: Doctor Who Tribute.

Tom Courtenay – 86 Years

When it comes to British actors, the route to film star status is via acting on stage. Most of them have taken that route, and that was no different or Sir Tom Courtenay. He is, in fact, a legend of both screen and stage but made his biggest impression on the former.
He had his breakthrough role with 1962’s The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner, earning a Most Promising Newcomer BAFTA award. His stage career put him in Oscar contention when he got nominated for The Dresser, a film based on a play he starred in. He will star in a 2021 film called The North Water.

Ian Bleasdale – 71 Years

Ian Bleasdale was what most people would call stable. He had a stable job as a teacher earning a decent wage and building on a healthy pension when he retired. But he is also an expressive person and actually gave up that stability to pursue his passion for performing arts and comedy.
He always jokes that this decision sent his mother to her sickbed. The decision also saw him land several small parts in shows like Inspector Morse, Andy Capp, and Coronation Street. He then gained prominence in Casualty, playing a paramedic named Josh Griffiths. His last TV appearance was in 2021’s Pointless Celebrities.

Jane Hazlegrove – 54 Years

Jane Hazlegrove shot to fame in the medical drama series, Casualty playing the gay character named Kathleen “Dixie” Dixon. She is herself openly gay and not only broke boundaries with her role but was also listed as one of the 100 most influential LGBT people of 2012 by World Pride Power.
This profile has helped her continue finding work, earning roles in shows like London’s Burning, Making Out, and Silent Witness. She had small roles in The Bill, Jonathan Creek, and Holby City, among others. She eventually made her move to soaps and, in 2018, landed a permanent role on Coronation Street playing Bernie Winter.

Sarah Douglas – 70 Years

Some people are really good at being the protagonist; others are more adept at being a villain. That appears to be the case for Sarah Douglas. In fact, she was so good at it that she played Ursa, a baddie in the 1978’s Superman II, and played Jindah Kol Rozz, the antagonist of the series Supergirl.
Her reputation was so high she also played Queen Taramis, the enemy in Conan the Destroyer. The closest she came to being a protagonist was in Falcon Crest, where she played a conniving character with a soft spot called Pamela Lynch. She is currently filming a 2021 Documentary called In Search of Tomorrow.

Judi Dench – 88 Years

Most of us remember Dame Judi Dench for playing M, the head of MI6 in the James bond films. Others may remember her from her performance as Queen Elizabeth I in Shakespeare In Love, a performance that earned her an Oscar, her only win in six nominations.
While she seems to fit serious roles better, she has also had a long-standing role in the British sitcom As Time Goes By, which she help from 1992 to 2005. Before then, she starred in another sitcom called A Fine Romance from 1981 to 1984. She is still active today and finished a movie called Off the Rails, due out in 2021.

Bill Curbishley – 79 Years

Bill Curbishley is a pretty good band manager. Not only did he sit behind the success of The Who, one of the most iconic rock bands in history, but he also did what even longstanding Led Zeppelin manager Peter Grant couldn’t do. He got Jimmy Page and Robert Plant to work together again.
Curbishley got them back on stage for the first time since the band disbanded in 1978. This resulted in the successful live album, No Quarter. He also manages heavy metal band Judas Priests and produced music videos for Nick Cave and Joan Jett. He’s currently working on a biopic about The Who’s Keith Moon and Roger Daltrey.

Roger Daltrey – 79 Years

Roger Daltrey is the singer and one of the key songwriters for the iconic rock band The Who. He is renowned for his poetic approach to songwriting. Some of his most crucial songwriting contributions to the band include songs like Anyway, Anyhow, Anywhere, See My Way, and Early Morning Cold Taxi.
He had an equally successful solo career that included hit albums like Ride a Rock Horse, his second and most successful album. He also released McVicar, which served as the soundtrack for the movie of the same name. Neither Daltrey nor The Who are letting up, and he is currently working on a documentary called Radio Caroline.

Andy Paterson – 63 Years

Andy Paterson has a pretty unique skill set. While his main role is as a producer for film and TV production, he is also skilled as a second unit director. It’s a specialist role that shoots at secondary angles to the main crew that we usually see during the start and transition in scenes.
He has done it on films like Girl with a Pearl Earring, The Railway Man, Beyond the Sea, and Hilary and Jackie. He has a lot of work currently in the pipeline, including one he just finished called Gore. He is currently in pre-production on a handful of projects including a mini-series called Spy Princess.

Tony Rohr – 83 Years

Tony Rohr is a bit of a background guy. he is in some pretty well-known films; he is just always in a supporting role or somewhere in the background. His major productions include the film adaptation of the novel Middlemarch where he played Solomon Featherstone. He also played Grandad in The Lakes, a British drama series.
The journeyman actor also has credits for films like McVicar, opposite Roger Daltrey, The Long Good Friday, and The Sweeney. He also found some success in television with a role in the popular sitcom Father Ted. He had another role in a series called Derek, which was his last role back in 2014.

Pete Townshend – 77 Years

One of the most iconic images in rock ‘n roll was of guitarist Pete Townshend swinging his guitar. There are many theories behind why they did it. Some link it to their rivalry with Jimi Hendrix and matching his guitar fire theatrics. Some think it’s symbolic, then trashing their old instruments to play new ones at a new show.
Townshend says it’s none of those, ad instead simply likened it to artistic expression. Not that he needed more with what he was doing with the band, having written over 100 songs across 12 albums. He appeared in the Mick Fleetwood & Friends Celebrate The music of Peter Green music special.

Pam St Clement – 81 Years

Pam St Clement was brought into EastEnders to play Pat Butcher, a character written in to bring more of a common grit to the hoity-toity beautiful people of Walford. It worked like a charm, and what was supposed to be a three episodes stint turned into a career-long role.
Although St Clement had her reservations about continuing with the characters, the character also proved pretty popular, pondering just where exactly the character fits in. She eventually stayed on EastEnders from 1986 to 2016 and last appeared in an episode of This Morning in 2020. Since she isn’t acting, she has more time for writing and various charity organizations.

Sylvestra Le Touzel – 65 Years

Besides being married to Owen Teale, Sylvestra Le Touzel is also a successful actress. She came from a prominent family from the Channel Island of Jersey and started acting from a young age. She eventually got her big acting break in the iconic show Doctor Who.
While she made plenty of TV appearances on shows like Dixon of Dock Green and The Professionals, she only made her film debut in 2006. This was in a film called Amazing Grace. She was also featured in the movie Cloud Atlas and The Death of Stalin. She was last active in 2020 on several shows, including The English Game, Roadkill, and Intelligence.

Charles Dale – 60 Years

Charles Dale has many prominent TV and film roles to his name. Some of his biggest ones include playing the porter Big Mac in Casualty and his most recognized role in Coronation Street playing Dennis Stringer, a former member of Hell’s Angels.
Besides being just a cast member, he held a lead role in a drama series called The Eustace Bros. In his native country of Wales, he starred in a series called Belonging. He also had supporting roles in Holby City, Rocket Man, and Lovejoy and had an appearance in the 2021 mini-series The Pembrokeshire Murders, set in Wales.

Valarie Pettiford – 62 Years

Valarie Pettiford gained fame for her jazzy tones and stage performances. The most notable of these is in the Broadway production called Fosse, for which she earned a Tony Award nomination. She also put in an acclaimed performance in productions of Show Boat and West Side Story.
But she also had some recognized roles in TV and film. Some of these include the sitcom Half & Half, where she played Big Dee Dee Thorne, and Tyler Perry’s House of Payne. She also had roles in films like Glitter, opposite Mariah Carey, and her most recent film was released in 2021 and called Senior Moment.

Vincent Riotta – 64 Years

Vincent Riotta was born as Vincenzo Ricotta. His birth name sounds cool enough, but he thought it would be better for him to go by his stage name. He has done pretty well with it, most notably on stage, where he has starred in Romeo and Juliet, A Streetcar Named Desire, and The Corsican Brothers.
But he became a household name during a stint on Coronation Street and an episode of The Bill. He even made moves into American TV shows with roles in Alias, Jag, Monk, and films like Captain Corelli’s Mandolin opposite Nicolas Cage. He is set to star in a 2021 film called Rocketry: The Nambi Effect.

Terence Stamp – 84 Years

If a filmmaker ever wants brooding silence, Terence Stamp is their man since he is labeled as the master of that art. He is also a powerful actor who made many iconic roles his own. This includes playing General Zod in Superman II and Bernadette Bassinger, a transgender woman in The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.
His talents had shone through early in his career. When his debut film in 1962’s Billy Budd, his performance earned him an Oscar and BAFTA nomination and won him a Golden Globe. He hasn’t stopped acting either and is participating in the 2021 film called Last Night in Soho.

Hilton McRae – 73 Years

Hilton McRae was a rebel with a cause in his younger days. He was part of the left-wing theater group called 7:84 who made plays telling stories about the struggles of the working class. This is why it’s almost poetic that the biggest film he was in was Star Wars: Return of the Jedi as a resistance pilot.
He was uncredited for the role but did gain credit for some big roles in British films and TV. These include movies like Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan and The French Lieutenant’s Woman. He is set for a role in the 2022 TV series Halo.

Stuart McGugan – 79 Years

Stuart McGugan is best recognized for spending ten years as a presenter of the BBC show Play School. This took him from 1975 to 1985, and he concurrently played Gunner ‘Atlas’ Mackintosh in the cult-classic sitcom; It Ain’t Half Hot Mum.
This wouldn’t be his last military-style show either. He also played a character named Bomba McAteer in the Tutti Frutti show and was also in the series Dad’s Army. He also had a recurring part in the sitcom You Rang M’Lord? and was last seen in a 2019 episode of Pointless Celebrities.

Alison Owen – 60 Years

Alison Owen is a film producer who cut her teeth in the music industry, producing music videos. But she is actually best known for her work on films like Shaun of the Dead, The Other Boleyn Girl, and Moonlight and Valentino.
She has worked for some notable production companies, including Limelight Records, where she made her film breakthrough working on a movie called Hear My Song. She also worked behind the scenes on a show called Diary of a Teenage Health Freak. She set up a low-budget films division at the Working Title production company and started her own called Ruby Films.

Julian Jarrold – 61 Years

Do you know the department stores called Jarrold’s? Julian Jarrold is a direct descendant of the people who started and named it back in 1770. But instead of getting into the family, he pursued his passion for acting and entertainment, most notably filmmaking.
He has worked on some big projects, including Great Expectations, the film adaptation of the classic Charles Dickens novel. He also did an adaptation of the novel Brideshead Revisited and did a film version of the high-profile musical Kinky Boots. Jarrold is renowned for making a Jane Austen biopic called Becoming Jane and has an upcoming 2022 film called This Sceptred Isle.

Owen Teale – 60 Years

Owen Teale was a pretty prolific actor in the ’80s. Notably, at the back end of the decade, starting with his debut role in 1989’s War Requiem. He followed this up with parts in Knights of God, Great Expectations, and Boon, all in the same year.
But he is probably best remembered for his role as Ser Alliser Thorne in Game of Thrones. The character is, of course, famous for leading a revolt and having everyone’s favorite character murdered. His character was killed off by hanging, and he’s been a busy bee ever since. Teale has an upcoming film called Wisdom for Heroes, due in 2022.

Jeremy Northam – 59 Years

Jeremy Northam is famous for playing Mr. Knightley in Emma, the adaptation of a famous Jane Austen novel. But he cut his acting teeth on stage and had some notable and impressive roles along the way. One of these was replacing Daniel Day-Lewis for the role of Hamlet in a production of the Shakespeare classic.
Northam also had a role in a play titled The Voysey Inheritance, which earned him the Olivier Award for the most promising newcomer. He also had a starring role in the film Cypher and built a reputation for starring in biopics like Martin and Lewis, where he played Dean Martin.

June Ritchie – 80 Years

June Ritchie is one of those actresses who had a whirlwind acting career where she got in, made an impact, then left early. For her, it all started in 1961, when she graduated from the Royal Academy Of Dramatic Art. She graduated with the Emile Littler Award firmly in her grasp.
The skills she learned also went to good use, and some of Ritchie’s best movies include The Mouse on the Moon. She also starred in The World Ten Times Over, opposite Sylvia Syms. She left the industry in 1988 when she started a family but returned to the stage, putting in a stellar performance in Gone With The Wind.

Anastasia Hille – 55 Years

While attending acting school, Anastasia Hille was in pretty good company. She was in the same class as Jude Law and Toby Stephens. The three were so skilled that they finished in the top three positions in the Ian Charleson Awards—her in second, Law in third, and Stephens winning.
She followed this up with notable parts in the British series. These include The Fear, a longstanding crime drama. For her role, she got nominated for a BAFTA in 2012. She also had roles in The Missing, The Hole, and Snow White & the Huntsman. She had a role in a 2021 mini-series called The Pembrokeshire Murders.

Suzanne Packer – 58 Years

Suzanne Packer has built her career around playing characters in the medically inclined show. From her 13-year run on the drama show Casualty playing nurse Tess Bateman to her short stint as another nurse on In My Skin. She was also on the institution called Doctor Who.
Packer is always busy with a project or something. Some of these include the show Bang and another appearance in Casualty for its 30th-anniversary special. She made some notable roles in 2020 with shows like Sitting in Limbo and a Welsh language movie Cyswllt (Lifelines). She played one of the leading roles in the 2021 mini-series The Pembrokeshire Murders.

Amanda Donohoe – 59 Years

When Amanda Donohoe was 16, she dated Adam Ant, lead singer of the band Adam and the Ants. She gained exposure by starring in one of their music videos, which in turn set her on a career path that has seen her star in one of America’s most lauded shows.

Richard E. Grant is a pretty mixed pot when it comes to heritage. He was born in Mbabane, a former Swaziland protectorate now known as Eswatini. He was raised in Southern Africa, cut his teeth in Cape Town’s Theater, and got his big break in a British black comedy.
He also wrote and directed a film about his childhood and played roles in films like Bram Stoker’s Dracula. More recent film roles include 2017’s Logan and 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. He had a role in the 2021 series Loki and has another movie coming in 2022 called Persuasion.

Nathaniel Parker – 59 Years

Being able to do a little bit of everything has its perks, just as Nathaniel Parker, an actor who excels at both screen and film roles. He is also well known for his voice-over work and has had notable roles in The Inspector Lynley Mysteries and Merlin, playing King Arthur’s uncle Agravaine de Bois.
His stage roles including starring opposite Dustin Hoffman in a 1989 production of The Merchant of Venice, in which he also starred in West End and Broadway productions. He currently has roles in a few upcoming 2021 films, including The Last Duel, The Beast Must Die, and Hunting Bears.

Hetty Baynes – 64 Years

Hetty Baynes trained as a ballet dancer and trained at the Royal Ballet School. She landed her first professional part at 12 years old in Rudolf Nureyev’s production of the Nutcracker. But being on stage eventually led to her pursuing acting, which she started by being a stage manager in repertory theatre.
She quickly got involved in the acting herself, with notable parts in plays like Inadmissible Evidence and See How They Run, a popular comedy. She moved into TV as well and had roles in the Agatha Christie adaptation called The Seven Dials Mystery. She last featured in a 2020 episode of Doctors.

Maggie Smith – 86 Years

Maggie Smith has had a long and prosperous career that dates back to 1952. But she will go down in pop culture history for a simple two-word incantation: Wingardium Leviosa. This was when she played the Transfiguration Professor Minerva McGonagall in the Harry Potter movies.
Of course, she’s had a lot more roles between ’52 and now. In fact, she has worked on over 60 films and 70 stage production. This includes roles in Agatha Christie’s adaptation Death on the Nile and the 1981 version of Clash of the Titans. She is also a two-time Oscar winner and is filming on the movie Downton Abbey 2.

Rita Tushingham – 79 Years

Rita Tushingham shot to fame in a controversial fashion, starring in the 1961 film A Taste of Honey. The film is famous for her and co-star Paul Danquah sharing the first-ever interracial kiss in a movie. Despite the controversy, she still won a BAFTA, Golden Globe, and a Cannes Film Festival Award.
She also continued to dominate on screen and stage with roles in The Leather Boys and The Trap. On stage, she had notable roles in A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Twelfth Night, and in later years, she had prominent roles in films like Being Julia. She has a role in 2021’s Last Night in Soho.

Charlotte Rampling – 75 Years

Charlotte Rampling is another actress who gained fame in the swinging sixties. She was prominent in the European arthouse scene and performed in several English, French and Italian productions. Before acting, she was a successful model and served as the muse for film director Francois Ozon, for whom she starred in several films.

Keith Allen – 67 Years

Keith Allen has had a pretty eventful career. This is even before he became a well-known pantomime star and actor. He once served as an opening comedy act for the iconic punk band The Clash. He was also fired as a stagehand after jumping on stage and singing Max Bygraves’ chorus line in the nude.
Some of his most famous films include Carry On Columbus and Trainspotting as a drug dealer. If that doesn’t make him famous enough, he is also the father to pop songstress Lily Allen and Game of Thrones star Alfie Allen. He is still active and starred in the 2021 mini-series The Pembrokeshire Murders.

Lindsay Duncan – 70 Years

At 70 years old, Scottish actress Lindsay Duncan may have slowed down, but she hasn’t altogether quit acting. In fact, in 2021, she was already part of two TV series: A Discovery of Witches and Inside No. 9. She is also married to actor Hilton McRae.
Like him, she also has links to Star Wars, where she voiced an android Episode I – The Phantom Menace. She also had roles in a Doctor Who special, The Water On Mars, and had roles in other major films like Birdman and the series Sherlock. She has also won a Tony and Olivier award for her stage work.

Trevor Eve – 70 Years

Like Tom Selleck and William Shatner (kind of), Trevor Eve was made for police dramas. He was so made for them that two of his main roles were in these kinds of shows. One of these was a show called Shoestring, where he played the title character.
The other was a show called Waking the Dead, where he played a detective superintendent named Peter Boyd. He is also a stage actor, who notably played Paul McCartney in the West End play John, Paul, George, Ringo 
 and Bert. He has a role in a show called A Discovery of Witches, which the second season aired in 2021.

William Roache – 89 Years

William Roache is a legend of British TV. He has been in the industry for 60 years and is renowned for his Coronation Street role. In fact, he’s been on the show so long that he holds the record in The Guinness Book of World Records as the longest-serving male TV actor for a single character.
His main gig is the soap opera, although his status has seen him appear on various other shows. These include the show Who Do You Think You Are? and Piers Morgan’s Life Stories. He has also won several awards for his work, including a Lifetime Achievement Award at the British Soap Awards.

Leonard Fenton – 95 Years

Leonard Fenton is another veteran of the TV world, most notable for his part in the popular British soap EastEnders playing Dr. Harold Legg, an original character from the show. Not to be confined to one role, Fenton also put in a stellar performance in the found-footage horror drama The Zombie Diaries.
He also had roles in several other films, including Shine on Harvey Moon in 1982 and Give My Regards to Broad Street in 1984. This was, of course, all before he made his EE debut. He eventually left the soap in 2019 after the character was killed off. He hasn’t made many on-screen appearances since then.

Duncan Campbell – 68 Years

People love spy stories; they’re full of intrigue, adventure, and suspense. But unlike in the movies, where the danger looks more serious than it actually is, for journalist Duncan Campbell, the risks were real. He was constantly getting under the British Intelligence Agency’s skin and revealed some major government secrets.
He was a true spy who uncovered classified government surveillance programs and revealing secret political organizations, which got his door kicked down and house searched. This was later dubbed the Zircon Affair. He is still active and specializes in computer forensics and gay rights issues.

Glenda Jackson – 85 Years

So you thought Arnold Schwarzenegger was the only high-profile actor to turn to politics for a few years? Think again because Glenda Jackson did it before it was cool to do. Jackson is an accomplished actress who won two Best Actress Oscars for her roles in Women in Love and A Touch of Class.
But in 1992, she decided to pack up her acting career and move into politics. She served as the MP for Hampstead and Kilburn from that year until 2015. She was also Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Transport between 1997 and 1999. She returned to acting and has a 2021 movie called Mothering Sunday coming up.

Penelope Wilton – 75 Years

Some people become movie stars; others become icons of the TV industry. The latter applies to Penelope Wilton, who has had some major TV roles. The most notable of these is a BBC sitcom called Ever Decreasing Circles which she took part in from 1984 to 1989.
More recently, she played Isobel Crawley in Downton Abbey from 2010 to 2015. But her best role is what came between, as she played Harriet Jones in the iconic show Doctor Who from 2005 to 2008. She also won an Olivier Award for Best Actress for her role in the stage play Taken at Midnight. She is currently filming on Downton Abbey 2.

Griffith Rhys Jones – 67 Years

Considering the man is named after a key historical figure, it comes as no surprise that Griffith Rhys Jones carved out a niche in the comedy world. The Welsh comedian is multi-talented and doubles as a television presenter and writer making him one of the most versatile players on British television.
Griffith’s breaking point came in the ’80s when he started working on various comedy sketch shows for BBC. Later in his career, the star branched out and formed a production company called Talkback Productions. Along the way, Griffith developed a love for acting and presenting and pursued both careers simultaneously.

Norman Lovett – 74 Years

Norman Lovett’s career has been an epic endeavor. The legend had a relatively late start, but it’s fantastic to see what he has achieved over the years. Norman is most notably known for taking over the alternative comedy scene and giving performances at London’s Comedy Store.
After gaining traction, the star went to write and appear in his sitcom titled I, Lovett. His show ran from the late eighties to the early nineties and is regarded as the critical turning point in Norman’s career. Since then, he has written and appeared on several other sitcoms, further beefing up his resume.

Betty Boothroyd – 92 Years

Veteran British politician Betty Boothroyd, Baroness Boothroyd, OM, PC, served as a member of parliament for West Bromwich West and West Bromwich between 1973 and 2000. She went on to have roles in more films like Till Death Us Do Part and its sequel In Sickness and in Health. Her profile exponentially grew when she earned a part in the show Worst Witch and more recently played the landlady to Sherlock Holmes in the hit TV show Sherlock. This was one of her last roles in 2017.
