For Danniella Westbrook, rebuilding her face has never been about vanity. It’s been a years-long fight for survival, dignity — and the chance to look in the mirror without pain.
Now, at 52, the former EastEnders star has revealed she has gone under the knife once more, reopening a chapter that has haunted her for decades.
This is the full, unfiltered story behind one of British TV’s most harrowing cosmetic journeys.
Fame at 14… Addiction by 15
Danniella shot to fame as Sam Mitchell while still a teenager. But behind the scenes, her life was already spiralling. By her mid-teens, she was battling addiction — a fight that would leave permanent scars, both visible and invisible.
At the height of her drug abuse, she has previously admitted spending vast sums on cocaine — a habit that didn’t just ravage her health, but destroyed the structure of her face.
Years of damage caused her nasal septum to collapse, leading to breathing difficulties, chronic infections, and severe facial bone loss.
When Her Face Began to Collapse
By the early 2000s, the physical consequences became impossible to hide. Bone deterioration, later worsened by osteoporosis, meant her cheekbones began to waste away. At one point, she was left with screws where teeth should have been, relying on a full denture fixed to the roof of her mouth.
“I nearly died,” she has said of one botched procedure — a chilling admission backed up by weeks in hospital and a battle with septicaemia.
Rushed Out of Reality TV… Into Emergency Surgery
While appearing on Celebrity Big Brother in 2016, Danniella was quietly removed from the house multiple times. The reason? Excruciating dental pain and bone that refused to heal around implanted screws.
She would eventually spend seven weeks in hospital, hooked up to IV drips, fighting a life-threatening infection.
Botched Abroad, Broken at Home
Desperate for solutions, Danniella turned overseas. In Turkey, she underwent a brutal combination of thread lifts, fat grafting, and liposuction — procedures she later said left her bloodied, bruised, and terrified.
“I looked like I’d done 10 rounds with Tyson Fury,” she admitted.
Worse still, some procedures failed to fix the very problems they were meant to solve, leaving her in agony — and unable to take strong painkillers because of her past addiction.
“I Wrote a Will Before Surgery”
At one point, surgeons refused to operate at all, warning her case was too risky. Private quotes reportedly soared into the hundreds of thousands.
Facing breathing failure after ending up in intensive care, she was finally approved for complex reconstruction under the NHS — a decision that may have saved her life.
Before travelling for one operation, she revealed she wrote a will, naming her son Kai as executor.
Under the Knife… Again
This week, Danniella confirmed she has undergone yet another major operation — including a full face, neck and brow lift, alongside lip and nose reconstruction.
Sharing hospital images, she praised her surgeon and hinted this is not the end — but part of a long-term plan to reclaim her face, her health, and her confidence.
Trolled, Targeted — But Still Standing
The emotional toll has been just as brutal. Danniella has spoken openly about the cruelty she faces online.
“I’m constantly made fun of,” she said.
“People tell me I’m ugly. They tell me to kill myself.”
Yet despite everything — the surgeries, the setbacks, the near-death moments — she keeps going.
Not for headlines.
Not for approval.
But to finally feel whole again.
A face rebuilt piece by piece. A life rebuilt through sheer survival.
And a journey that, heartbreakingly, still isn’t over.
