This Morning presenters Dermot O’Leary and Alison Hammond were moved as Olly Murs completed his Soccer Aid challenge.

The duo were presenting Friday’s (May 15) edition of the ITV programme as Olly finished his challenge, which involved running, cycling and rowing nearly 250 miles from Manchester to London to raise funds for children’s charity UNICEF.

The programme switched to the finishing point, where Olly became tearful as he embraced his wife Amelia and relatives,

“It’s been a tough week,” he said, acknowledging he was “in bits”. “My quad today, that run from central London to here, oh, it was so painful,” said Olly. “But I just kept thinking, ‘I’ve got to get to the end.’ I can’t even stand.”

When This Morning returned to the studio, the presenters appeared emotional as Dermot stated: “Olly we are so proud of you, mate. Well done. Absolutely amazing.”

“You’re making us emotional,” said Alison, with Dermot agreeing they were both “still broken”.

“Honestly, we’re so proud of you,” Alison continued. “You have absolutely smashed that. And imagine all those children that you are going to help… Honestly, you’re like a different person to me now. You have literally, I just can’t believe how incredible you are. Do you even know how amazing you are?”

“Oh, don’t say that, Alison,” said a tearful Olly, who has raised over £832,000 so far.

“I’m just a normal guy that got lucky, and I’ve had an amazing career. I love my job. And I love being able to do this.

“And, you know, to be given the opportunity from Soccer Aid, you know, it’s been an amazing part of my life. So to be able to do this and to raise that sort of money, I’m just really proud of myself and proud of the fact that, you know, Soccer Aid, still to this day, is such a huge charity that does so much with UNICEF to help kids around the world.”

As the segment drew to a close, Dermot turned to Alison and said: “God, that fills your heart, doesn’t it?”

“It got me,” his co-host agreed

“When he started crying, I was like, I was gone, I had goosebumps.”
