Frankenstein, Guillermo del Toroâs gothic horror movie starring Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi and Mia Goth, was nominated for nine Oscars going into Sunday nightâs 98th Academy Awards. How many Oscars did the film win?
Released in theaters on Oct. 17, 2025, before making its streaming debut on Netflix three weeks later on Nov. 7, Frankenstein was directed by del Toro, who adapted the screenplay from author Mary Shelleyâs classic Gothic novel from 1818.

The filmâs Oscar nominations going into Sundayâs ceremony included Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay for del Toro, Best Supporting Actor for Elordi, Best Cinematography for Dan Lausten and Best Original Score for Alexandre Desplat.

By the conclusion of the ceremony, Frankenstein won three Oscars, for Best Costume Design, Best Makeup and Hairstyling and Best Production Design.

Guillermo del Toro, who earned a Best Picture nomination as one of the producers of Frankenstein (alongside J. Miles Dale and Scott Stuber), lost in the category when One Battle After Another was awarded the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciencesâ top honor.
The filmmaker also lost in the Best Adapted Screenplay category to Paul Thomas Anderson for One Battle After Another. The filmmaker was snubbed in the 2026 Oscar nominations for Best Directing, even though he was one of the five filmmakers who were nominated in the film directing category at the 2026 Directors Guild of America Awards.

Miles Dale won the Best Picture Oscar for producing the sci-fi fantasy The Shape of Water. In addition, del Toro won the Oscar for Best Directing for the film.
In addition, del Toro and the late Mark Gustafson won the Best Animated Feature Oscar for directing the stop-motion fantasy Pinocchio, which they shared with producers Gary Unger and Alexander Bulkey.
Del Toro has also been nominated for Best Original Screenplay for 2006âs sci-fi fantasy Panâs Labyrinth, as well as Best Original Screenplay for The Shape of Water. He was also nominated for producing the 2021 Best Picture nominee Nightmare Alley, an honor he shared with fellow producers Dale and Bradley Cooper.
