Apple TV unveiled a brand new trailer for Anna Maxwell Martin’s highly-anticipated space-race drama Star City. The For All Mankind spinoff’s new teaser has a dark and sinister edge that hints at betrayal, tension and danger whilst giving a sneak peek of Maxwell Martin’s intense performance.

Star City is set to debut its first two episodes on 29 May, followed by a weekly release on Fridays until its finale on 10 July.

While the original show, set in an alternate reality, focused on the space race at large, Star City will concentrate on the risk, sacrifices and efforts it took for the Soviet Union to succeed in being the first to put a man on the moon.

The synopsis expands further stating: “Star City is a propulsive paranoid thriller that takes us back to the key moment in the alt-history retelling of the space race – when the Soviet Union became the first nation to put a man on the moon.

“But this time, we explore the story from behind the Iron Curtain, showing the lives of the cosmonauts, the engineers, and the intelligence officers embedded among them in the Soviet space program, and the risks they all took to propel humankind forward.”

Created by Ben Nedivi, Matt Wolpert and Ronald D Moore, the eight-episode series will see Maxwell Martin star as senior KGB agent Lyudmilla Raskova, while House of the Dragon‘s Rhys Ifans will take on the role of Chief Designer for the project.

Padding out the ensemble cast will be Black Doves‘ Agnes O’Casey, Bridgerton‘s Priya Kansara, House of the Dragon‘s Solly McLeod, I, Jack Wright‘s Ruby Ashbourne Serkis, Andor‘s Josef Davies, Bad Behaviour‘s Alice Englert, and Chernobyl‘s Adam Nagaitis.

Nedivi and Wolpert serve as showrunners and executive produce alongside Moore and Tall Ship Productions’ Maril Davis, as well as Steve Oster and Andrew Chambliss.

Meanwhile it was announced last month that parent show For All Mankind would end with its sixth season. The news came ahead of its season five debut, which aired on 27 March

In a joint statement, creators Moore, Nedivi and Wolpert said: “Getting to explore the For All Mankind universe over six seasons has been an amazing privilege, and we’re thrilled to have the opportunity to finish the story the way we’ve always hoped.

“We’re incredibly proud of what this series has become, and grateful to Apple TV and Sony Pictures Television for helping us see it through to its final chapter.”
