“So I can only imagine how the Jewish community, my neibours [sic] and friends, must be feeling during these times. It’s incredibly important, now more than ever, that regardless of your own personal religious or political beliefs, you do not project blame or hate onto innocent people who, like all of us, are merely going about their day trying live their lives, take care of their families and put food on the table.”

She added: “I’m not saying that the above is necessarily what happened today, but over the last few months I have seen and heard things that lead me to believe this projection is both commonplace and seemingly acceptable.

“As a resident, I will say that both the Shomrim and the Met have been omnipresent in the community, and even though I am not Jewish, I have felt deep gratitude for their presence. Humanity and compassion are needed now more than ever.”

He told ITV News: “People are really concerned, people are afraid, people are uncomfortable walking in the street, people are blaming obviously the government for not doing anything about what’s going on.”

“It’s for the past few months really that our community is suffering from these type of attacks. And now it’s going on and trying to take people’s lives and it’s really terrible. The government, they are the ones that are able to take care of the problems. And they are not doing their job.”

“Thanks to God that I am recovering, and the wound isn’t so bad as they initially thought. I am here and I can talk, and it’s really a miracle that has happened to me today.”

The prime minister, Keir Starmer, also said: “The antisemitic attack in Golders Green is utterly appalling. Attacks on our Jewish community are attacks on Britain.”
