Egypt’s heartbreaking World Cup exit has created a storm of controversy after Mostafa Ziko criticised the refereeing decisions following their dramatic 3-2 defeat to Argentina.

The reigning champions looked close to elimination in Atlanta when Egypt built a shock 2-0 lead. Ziko scored his nation’s second goal, putting the Pharaohs within touching distance of a historic victory.
However, Argentina produced a stunning late comeback, scoring three unanswered goals to keep their hopes of winning consecutive World Cup titles alive.
Despite the incredible turnaround, much of the discussion after the match focused on several controversial moments. Egypt had a goal ruled out following a VAR review because of a foul earlier in the move, while players and staff were furious after they were not awarded a penalty shortly before Argentina scored their winner.

Ziko did not hide his frustration after the final whistle. The forward claimed his team had been treated unfairly and suggested decisions went against Egypt throughout the match.
The Egyptian player said he felt the performance of the officials had influenced the result, although no evidence has been presented to prove claims of match manipulation or corruption.
Egypt manager Hossam Hassan also expressed his anger after the defeat. He questioned the use of VAR and said his team deserved more from the game after pushing the defending champions so close.
For Egyptian supporters, the defeat was especially painful because their team had been minutes away from one of the biggest shocks in World Cup history.
Argentina, meanwhile, continue their title defence after surviving a major scare. Their late goals kept Lionel Messi’s dream alive and secured a place in the next round.
The dramatic match will be remembered not only for Argentina’s comeback but also for the debate and emotions that followed one of the most controversial nights of the tournament.
