đŸ§© King Charles Faces ‘Critical’ Trust Issue With Harry And Meghan After Highgrove Reunion

King Charles’s private reunion with Prince Harry, Meghan Markle and their children may have offered the Royal Family its most hopeful moment in years — but experts warn the deepest problem has not vanished overnight.

Buckingham Palace confirmed that the King and Queen Camilla hosted the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet at Highgrove House on Friday. The meeting was described simply as a “private family occasion”, with no further details released and no public images expected.

For Charles, the moment carried clear emotional significance. It was the first time he had seen Archie and Lilibet in more than four years, and the first time Harry and Meghan had returned to the UK together since 2022. After years of public tension, legal rows, security disputes and bruising interviews, the sight of the family gathering privately under one roof will inevitably be viewed as a possible thaw.

But royal commentator Jennie Bond has suggested that the reunion does not automatically repair the damage. Writing in The i Paper, she argued that a “lack of trust” remains the critical issue between the Sussexes and the King. In her view, the weekend could prove to be a “make-or-finally-break moment” in Harry’s relationship with his father.

The trust problem has been building since Harry and Meghan stepped back from royal duties in 2020 and moved to the United States. It intensified after the couple’s Netflix documentary, public interviews and Harry’s memoir Spare, in which private family tensions were placed firmly in the public arena.

Even if the Highgrove meeting gives Charles and Harry a chance to reset their personal relationship, the wider royal fracture remains deeply complicated. Reports suggest there are still no plans for Harry to meet Prince William during this UK visit. The brothers’ relationship has long been described as the hardest wound to heal, with William reportedly still cautious about any private reconciliation becoming public drama.

The reunion also came after days of intense speculation over whether Meghan and the children would travel to Britain at all. The Sussexes’ security concerns had dominated headlines, while the Palace’s careful language around the Highgrove meeting reflected a clear desire to keep the occasion low-key and family-focused.

Bond also praised Princess Diana’s family, the Spencers, for maintaining connections with both William and Harry despite the brothers’ painful fallout. She suggested they had handled the situation with unusual diplomacy, staying close to Harry while not publicly worsening the divide.

For royal watchers, the Highgrove meeting is therefore both heartwarming and fragile. It shows that Charles has not closed the door on Harry, Meghan or their children. But it also raises the bigger question that still hangs over the monarchy: can trust be rebuilt once so much has been said in public?

The King may finally have had precious time with Archie and Lilibet again, but one private family reunion does not erase years of hurt. For now, Highgrove may mark the beginning of a thaw — not the end of the storm.
